New GTX 1080 strange problem

I recently bought the Inno3d 1080 Ichill edition from Overclockers and while I love the performance, there is something a bit strange about the card.
When I first installed it, I found that one of the displayport cables wasn't reliably connecting but I was able to make it work after wiggling it a bit (the answer to many PC problems, wiggle it a bit).
However, when I tried to plug in my Oculus Rift, I found that it didn't work at all (orange light on, but didn't turn white when worn and no video), so I decided to have another look at the sockets on the card and found that they are too close to the edge of the slot as below:

As you can see, they are very close to the top edge of the slot and that prevents the cables from being fully inserted.
I previously had an MSI 1070 EK edition (which fried itself) and the sockets were correctly positioned central to the slot, so why this card is different I have no idea.
I have checked and the card is correctly seated with the tabs at the bottom of the backplate in their slots and the top well aligned by the thumbscrews:

I am at a bit of a loss TBH and not sure what to do, I don't mind hacking a cheap displayport cable to make it fit and that is what I did, but I REALLY don't want to hack an Oculus Rift cable just to make it fit.
The only thing I can think of is take the card out and take a cutting disk to the case to make the slot wider.
Any thoughts and help gratefully received.

I have the same issue with my 1080s. Luckily my cables seem to extend deep enough to fully insert into socket before shroud touches.

maybe loosen screws, see if you can get cable in, then gently retighten after.

Thanks for the idea, I have tried loosening the thumbscrews and the card doesn't want to move around. I am a bit nervous about trying to move it too hard as it's a big heavy card and the PCIE socket isn't reinforced on this mobo.
I thought about an extension cable for the HDMI port, but I already have one that worked fine on my previous AMD card but has never worked with either of the nVidia cards so I don't think that's going to work.
Really, the only option I can see working is to take a cutting disk to the case and make a little room for the plug.

Maybe it’s just the image, but it looks to me like the card is “sagging” down. Maybe find a piece of wood or something else non cunductive to prop it up at the back (i.e towards the front of your case)?

Good luck

Agreed, the card is sagging so it's pulling the ports up, so sorting the sag will help.

My 1080 has the same problem in that the ports are too high & conflict with the case, seems it's a problem with the design on these cards!

File down the case.
This. Either file the slot separator to make room for the plug to go in all the way, or cut it out completely.
If you think that is a tight fit try a 7 port USB 3.0 card where the connectors are all sideways and exactly the same width as the slot. I have to plug things in to it before screwing it in.
