New hair clippers (Silly Question)

So have just purchased some hair clippers - arrived but moments ago.
Comes with blade attachments for 3, 6, 9 & 12mm lengths. This all makes sense, need Grade 2 (6mm) for myself.
However, there is also a separate adjustment option on the clippers themselves. Listed in the manual as "micro adjustment" and it can be set between 0.8 & 2.0mm - looks like it can be set at .2mm adjustments.
Can anyone tell me what this adjustment is for and where I should be setting it?

I know, silly question - but the manual that came with them tells you what the little turn dial does, doesn't explain when I'd want to use it :)

What comes between 3, 6, 9 & 12mm?
That microadjustment lets you do 3.8mm, 3.9mm, 4mm, 4.1mm, 4.2mm, etc etc.
I suspect it's a hair and beard trimmer, for those who like to cut cool and funky HipHop/R&B designs into their head and face....
 
I said it was a silly question - and not being a hairdresser or having owned/used said items before, I couldn't make sense of it.
I'm getting on in years now and an all-over Grade 2 suits me just fine, the purchase was purely to save me a trip each month as the wife can just attack the hair as and when!

Also, as the micro settings appear to be 0.8 - 2.0, my only thoughts were - well that actually means that I cannot get 6mm, it'll either be 5mm (3mm + 2mm) or 6.8mm (6mm + 0.8mm).

Mate..... there's "getting on in years".... and then there's actually letting the wife do your hair!!!! :D

I'd suggest going for 5mm and letting it grow into the 6. I don't think the difference will be all that noticable.
 
Actually, am I being even sillier than I already am?
The 4 attachments are 3, 6, 9 & 12mm. It isn't going to matter what I set the "Micro adjustment" to - 2mm is still shorter than the 3mm attachment.
The 0.8mm - 2.00mm would be settings WITHOUT an attachment?
So basically, the clippers have the settings :- 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12mm?
 
micro adjustment is for people who have micro down below and don't want to accidentally shave it off when they trim their bits :D
 
Bum hair can only be cut in 0.2mm increments, regulation 4r53 paragraph number 2 dictates this.
