I am a big PlayStation fan, always have been so I was looking into getting the PS VITA - I would take advantage of some of the PS4 capabilities along with the fact I love achievements!
So I was close to buying one and then I started to think about what games I would get and this is where I started to lose interest in the VITA, I can see Jak and Daxter might be decent and maybe Uncharted but what else? and better still....what else is coming out? The Final Fantasy X remake I will get on the PS3 so I don't know if there is much point in going for the VITA.

My VITA idea soon changed to a Nintendo 3dsxl when I bought my girlfriend the new animal crossing game - it looks like so much fun! plus I would be able to play this with her. The titles look so much more appealing with the new pokemon and zelda games coming out and I guess I would be able to link this up with my WiiU which is collecting dust at the end of my room...

What do you guys recommend? Also where is the best place to buy the 3dsxl? I don't want to spent a fortune on one.

3DS anytime, it acctually has a game libary.

+1

Better to put the money towards a 3DS IMO. From what I've seen there aren't really any must have games for the PS Vita that aren't out on other platforms already. The 3DS on the other hand has lots of exclusive titles which you won't be able to play on anything else.

Quite tempted by one myself actually. The problem is that that I hardly ever played my old DS lite so I can't really justify spending the money on a new 3DS.

The Vita has the advantage of being part of PS+, which means a couple of "free" games per month. It has two of the best games on the system available in Uncharted and mavity Rush.

Its a good point and I totally forgot about this, I have the Plus account and I would have that to take advantage of, its a tricky one, maybe I need to get both lol.

If im honest I don't even need any new games I have plenty on my PC, PS3 and WiiU BUT....im greedy.

I own both and I would pick my 3DS all the time. You cant beat the good old Nintendo exclusive it has. Only problem is, if a game is on both consoles then the 3DS comes off worse as if the developers cant be bothered. Rayman Origins being a prime example.

I own both but only ever pick up my vita, the only 3DS games I'm waiting for are Zelda LTTP sequel and Pokemon. I'd like to see Majoras Mask be remade for the 3DS.

If you've got a PS plus sub and like Uncharted I'd recommend the Vita :).

Im regretting this thread now haha, I had shifted from VITA to 3dsxl but now im swaying back to VITA.....but having said that.... I might wait for a price drop on the VITA, they must be cutting it soon!

I'll be getting a vita soon (perhaps a 3ds XL as well) mainly for the ps4 compatibility. Having said that I just resubscribed to playstation plus and have 4 Vita games already (mavity Rush, Uncharted, Unit 13, Ninja Gaiden) with more to come each month.

Not to mention the best Vita deals at the minute come with 10 games included:

Little Big Planet Vita
WipeOut 2048
MotorStorm RC
Little Deviants
Frobisher Says!
Ecolibrium
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Lemmings
Hungry Giraffe
The HD Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character

The way I look at it provided I stay subscribed to PS plus I'll always have something to play, even though I'm not terribly concerned about the games myself. One thing I would suggest if you are considering a Vita is to get a 30 day trial of PS Plus (people on here usually give them away) and start to download the vita games. You don't actually have to download them, as long as you start the download you can redownload them later if you do get a vita. Just means you won't miss out on free games when they get taken off the Plus offer.

Whilst I wouldn't recommend a Vita right now (because outside of some decent exclusives, most of its 'library' is made up of PS2/PS1 ports), if you are determined to get one then I suggest holding off until the Gamescom Expo next month. There have been rumours Sony is going to announce a lot of new titles for the system then. Hopefully a price cut too.

Handheld of choice is definitely the 3DS XL at the present. Provided you like Nintendo IPs of course.

I've had a Vita since launch and to be quite honest I have enjoyed having it, but I don't have use for a handheld anymore so I'm very much considering selling it.

The only reason I haven't is that they are worth so much less now.

But I've sold al lthe games and 32GB card so might as well.

I used to play it at work but don't have time anymore and have no interest at all in a handheld in the house.

Despite me enjoying the Vita, if I had to buy one again I'd probably go for the Nintendo offering. I don't think the PS4/Vita connection offers anything useful so I'd rather have access to a different library of games.

I've had a vita since launch day but don't use it that much. I don't really have use for a handheld if I'm honest. The main reason I haven't bothered selling it, is that I only own the vita plus an 8gb card. Everything I play is PS+ so it's not worth that much to sell.

I see the appeal of the 3DS but again it's down to money. Most of the games that I'd want, Mario etc are £30++ and I just know I'd end up with 1 or 2 games.

I've had a Vita + 3DS (upgraded to a 3DSXL since then) since launch days, and I'd pick the Vita every time :)

The "Vita has no games" bandwagon got boring long ago... if all you bought was a Vita, Persona 4 and a PS+ subscription for the free games then you'd still be getting fantastic value.

well guys thanks for all the suggestions, a few mixed views which I expected so its been hard to make my mind up....

I think I am going to get a 3dsxl and animal crossing, play this with the misses and then hold out for a while and maybe invest in the VITA after the price drops a little.

Nice advice from Bennie, I will download a few of the VITA games I fancy and hold them on the PS3 in case I get the VITA at some point.
