Thinking about downsizing and upgrading from my i7 920, 7950, 6gb tower pc to a sff. Thinking about this:

Silverstone SG01 or 02
Silverstone Strider ST45SF-G 450W
Intel Core i5 4670K
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series Silver, PC3-17066 (2133)
250GB Samsung 840 EVO

will be putting my 7950 in it and then my other 120gb SSD. will be using my single rad AIO to cool the cpu and then attempting to oc to at least 4.2

Good build? Needs improvement?

How do you plan on mounting the rad? If I'm correct the SG01 doesn't have any 120mm fans.

Try the SG09/10 but if you are to mount your AIO cooler on the back of the case it might restrict the first PCIe slot on your motherboard

How small do you need it, My TJ08-E is small (and silverstone).

It can fit a NH D14 and it runs my 2500k @ 4.7ghz easy under 60C full load. :)

Ok so looks like I need to go mini then not micro, which actually seems to work out just as well, if I get the MSI Z87I Gaming motherboard.

which leaves me to get a sg05 or 06 (card may not fit grrrr) , or maybe the EVGA Hadron Air. I have the 06 as my htpc downstairs and love the case, but obviously would need to switch the PSU out for at least 450W.

Could use a normal ATX PSU (not long models) in a SG05/06. But sacrifices are then made in what else is fitted.

Most recent example I've seen. Silverstone ST65F-G 650W at OC.net.
Because PSU is just over 2cm taller, you can see rear picture with screws holding it to case that bottom support lip has been bent up and now forming part of the case back.

If I was going to use ATX PSU I'd check it was certified at 50 degree centigrade. A lot of the OEM ones can be a lot lower, with the above Silverstone model listed at 40 degrees.

Why bother chopping up your Sugo SG05 to fit a full ATX PSU when the Silverstone 450W SFX PSUs can run any modern card?

I have the the modular ST45SF-G running an i5 2500 and GTX Titan with no issues.

If you really want the extra space, the SG07/08 isn't a bad shout.

The SG03 is a microATX case that I've seen people mounting radiators in the front of. Then there's the SG09/10 which also will take microATX and watercooling.

Only suggested it as original poster is transferring parts and upgrading.

If original PSU is suitable then might as well re-use it and get lite version of case. And using an AIO cooler negates need for clearance above motherboard that an air cooler requires.

Fair enough. He'd need to get creative where to fit the SSDs though. On my build I've flipped the PSU so the fan is pulling from the top and mounted my SSD and laptop drive in a dual caddy underneath (I'm using a H60 so there's space above the CPU as you say).

Given the short length of the my SFX PSU I could mount an SSD vertically on the left edge of the case using a thin 2.5" to 3.5" adapter plate and screwing it in to the main frame, but I don't think there's enough space to do that with a full ATX PSU in there.

I know there's not enough space on the floor underneath the radiator.

Still, it's a challenge and that's part of the fun :p

Think I have figured this out now:

PSU: 600W Silverstone Strider SST-ST60F-PS, Full Modular, 80 PLUS Silver
CASE: Fractal Design Node 304
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K,
AIO: Corsair Hydro Series H80 Liquid CPU Cooler (realised I cant use my current AIO)
RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series Silver, PC3-17066 (2133)
CAB: Silverstone SST-PP05-E Short Cable Set for SilverStone PSU Strider Series
MOBO: MSI Z87I GAMING AC, Intel Z87, S 1150 MITX

I don't like the Node 304 personally - nowhere near as good as the Array R2 it's tried to mimick. Plus you'll have to remove one of the hard drive cages to fit a long GPU in.

Have you considered the Silverstone SG08-LITE? Nice solid front panel, 120mm or 140mm AIO can fit where the 180 Air Penetrator used to go, fits 12.5" GPUs and ATX PSUs.

And given that Silverstone's Strider ST45SF-G 450W can power pretty much any single-gpu card, what about the Raven RVZ01 when it comes out?

Not sure if you can fit a standard ATX PSU and a full size card in the SG08.

My SG08 comes with their 600w PSU and it almost touches my 6950 (about 1-2mm gap). The included PSU is a smaller size to a standard ATX I believe, so it may be tricky.

Standard ATX = 86mm (H) x 150mm (W) x 150mm (D)
SG08 600w bundled PSU = 86 mm (H) x 150 mm (W) x 140 mm (D)

10mm difference, which can be quite significant in these tiny builds.

You could get away with a normal ATX PSU and a shorter card probably.

The ATX PSU listed is not standard size, its the new one thats smaller then traditional ones but obviously bigger then SFF PSU's.

Not a fan of the raven looks, and I did look at the SG08 just thought I might have space issues?!?!
I will need over 500W I assume , if I am going to overclock the CPU and run a 7950.

It may indeed fit then. 450w will be enough if its decently rated and efficient.

Overclocking will be a problem depending on the case. Not many coolers will fit and they will need to be low profile if they do. Quite a lot of the low profile coolers cover the PCI-E slot as well and the RAM slots, so you'll need low profile RAM too.

You could get an AIO cooler for the SG08 and not use the included AP-181 180mm fan. Again, the size of the case will not allow an over clock as great as that of an M-ATX or ATX case.

I use a stock Intel cooler in my SG08 and over clocked my 2500k to 3.8GHz. It can go up to 4.5GHz, but the voltage increase alone makes it too hot on load.

If you were to go for the SG08 I'd just use the included PSU. It's big and powerful enough to take anything you throw at it, even the dual GPU cards, and fits the case nicely.

It will also take an AIO watercooling unit but you'll either have to lose the AP fan for a 120mm one or get creative with mounting the radiator. It's the one reason I don't really love the case.

In your shoes, and assuming you don't mind the extra cost, I'd have the SG05/06 w/450W PSU, an AIO water cooler in the front, SSD/HDD mounted on the case floor or on the PSU, and consider if the card doesn't fit, selling it for something like a GTX760 or R9 270X that will fit instead.

I realised also why I dont like the SG08 , if you want to get an AIO cooler in there you have to fit in in the roof which seems counter intuitive (given that heat rises) to cool the cpu even if your pulling air out.
Also 600W for a psu is nice but its Bronze rated and a little overkill imo.

Dont know I like the look of the case generally but I feel they could have done better on the internals.

The SG08 wasn't designed to hold an AIO. They can fit for sure, but the thermals were designed for positive pressure using the AP-181 at the top.
