New HDD and Ram needed for laptop

I have posted this in Laptop Forum but that forum isnt as lively as this, If it is not allowed then removal is ok.

I currently have a Asus G1s with a 160gb hdd and 2gb ram, I am looking to upgrade both these, What ram would you guys recommend and what hdd would you recommend?
I am also looking for some dvds that i can burn my photos onto, Any particular brands i should go for?

Assuming no budget constraints
Verbatim are generally considered one of best brands for optical media
+R has better quality but arent necessarily compatible with all older players (new players are fine)
-R is still good quality just not quite as good but fully compatible with all old players

Sorry forgot the budget
£40 for hdd ?
and about £30 for the ram
Is that possible?
If it isnt i may just go for a new hdd

the RAM is a lot more, RAM prices have been going up across the board of late

Ok i will just stick with the hdd for now and hope Santa Claus will bring me the ram
