So, end of last year my psu blew up and took the motherboard and old hdd with it also.

I have since bought a new psu and hdd, also bought a mobo, cpu, ram from the MM.

Everythig is connected and starts up fine, nice and quiet.

Every time I go to install windows 7 from the dvd, it freezes/crashes.

Somwtimes it gets to 10%, sometimes 60 - 90%.

Once, it installed and got to the final part where it finishes the installation and then crashed.

After what seems like forever, I have given up!! What can I do to get a clean simple install of windows?? Never had this problem the first time I bought it years ago!

Try changing the SATA cable(s) to the disk drive and HDD, it (they) might be bobbed up. Also clean disk with a microfibre cloth or something, may help.

Excellent! !

Removed the ram and swapped with a friends ram, loaded first time!

After install, put ram back in and wouldn't even boot..

Looks like the ram I got from the MM is faulty!

Cheers!

You're welcome. Only recently learned (first-hand...) that dodgy RAM can be also be one of the likely causes of Windows (or Windows updates) failing to install. And the RAM might even work no problem on other systems, but its weak spots will be found by other systems. And occasionally can even pass Memtest. So the only 100% RAM check is to try with other RAM. Glad you did exactly that. :)

I sold John the RAM, just tested it this morning as he sent it back to me, seems to be running fine in a machine here, been on most of the day playing a game. no issues whatsoever, it was also pulled from a working machine.

Must just be the compatibility with the motherboard or the wrong voltage potentially? seems to pass a memory test so I think I will put it back on the MM.

Sorry John for the problem, refunded you just now.
