New Headphone 150 quid, AKG k702?

I just got some AKG K702s as well! Yay!

I've been finding them awesome already... but don't have a dedicated headphone amp and DAC with which to drive them.

So, what's good with say a £200 budget? I listen to a combination of Rock/blues/metal some classical, some pop-ish-y stuff and a little bit of punky stuff

I like very much the aesthetic of things like the Pro-ject Box S range and the Schiit components... stuff that looks like a Hi-Fi kind of thing (though I guess I'd overlook aesthetics if there's a massive difference in quality for lower price points on "uglier" stuff)

Got them! I'm blown away by the sound. Coming from the HD558 which I really liked these are big step up to my ears. So clean and flat. Oh and comfort it excellent, just as good at the Senn's

Schiit Modi optical or Modi 2 uber if you can stretch to it and a Schiit Vali tube-hybrid amp.

The Modi optical or Modi 2 Uber will give you a nice clean noise free signal and the Vali will help fill out the bass while keeping the highs clear and help smooth off some of the upper range harshness that comes with the K702.

Will have to wait an extra month, but should be able to get the Modi 2 Uber and Vali...

But I have a question...

I've got two book end speakers (un-powered) that could be nice to use when not using headphones... would I need to go up to the Valhalla 2 or down to the Magni 2 Uber to plug in a little stereo amp (like the Lepy 2024A+ for instance) to add in the speakers to the chain?

Magni 2 Uber and Asgard 2 and Valhalla 2 all have RCA pre-amp outs which you could use to feed either an external speaker amp or active speakers. Just so you are aware, as they have a pre-amp out, the volume control will also affect the volume of the signal going to the amp.

The Uber stack will set you back £250 and the Lepy is another £27 for three items on your desktop. An alternative is the Creative Sound Blaster X7 (£299.99) which has a very good DAC, excellent headphone amp and a better speaker amp than the Lepy all in one surprisingly small box.

I used one for a week and really didn't want to let it go back to OcUK. My only gripe is that it's got a plastic case but on the upside it's got a very usable layout and all the features of a high end sound card.

Agree with rids tbh the Creative is definitely worth a look as it is a great solution. and maintains some sound card features and connection options that the Schiit stack can't offer
