I'm looking for a new headset to replace my broken Turtle Beach Z6As. My budget about £80.

I'm considering either the Razer Kraken 7.1 Surround Sound USB Black Gaming Headset or the Corsair Vengeance 1500V2 Dolby 7.1 Gaming Headset.

Another option I am considering is getting a set of QPAD QH-90 Pros, although I'm not sure if I would be better getting a 7.1 headset so I can hear people approaching from behind me in BF4.

Can anyone offer any advice?

kraken would get my vote from that range and i'm not a big razer fan but I listen to people and feedback has been overall good on the kracken.

Thanks for the input TwsT if I do get a USB headset I'll go for the Krakens.

However after having a bit of a read around the internet it seems that i could get better sound quality with a cheap sound card and a set of stereo headphones.

yup it would be better.

Siberias + a DG sound card and you're sorted.

Depends how much you have to spend.

Creative Z sound cards are great for gaming.

I already have a Xonar DGX somewhere so getting a cheap sound card is not a problem.

I think I will pair that with a QPAD QH-90 Pro as that gets some very good write-ups, do you have any idea when the black ones will be back instock at OcUK?

I suppose that if I really need the surround sound effects than I can get one of those USB sound cards at a later date?

Q pad 90 is a great all rounder with its detachable mic you can use it away from your gaming machine too. I used it with a soundblaster usb card which gave great surround effects,In fact I liked it so much I upgraded to the 1339. They really do produce quality gear, you'll be pleased with it I'm sure

I'm using the QH-85's which are the open back version of the headset.

Great build quality and good all round sound for there price point.

What are the QH-85s like?

I am tempted to get them instead of the QH-90s as OCUK have the black ones in stock, but the potential sound leakage issues concern me.

Same head set, other than the ear pads are a soft cloth material on the QH-85's and a soft rubber type coating on the QH-90's. And open and closed of course.

I hardly hear any sound leakage from my headset. But then I guess it can be subjective from one person to the next.

So if noise leakage is a concern, then I'd wait for the QH-90's to come back into stock.

Just ordered myself a set of QH-90s in white, I was not going to wait for the black ones to come back into stock.

They should be here tomorrow hopefully.

Good choice.

I do use voice comms a lot, but use push to talk. But I wouldn't say the leakage was enough to effect the voice activated option on them.
