I was wondering where to post this, and have decided the CPU will be my biggest debate so probably better asking the CPU experts which route to take.

Boring self justification for spending yet more cash on Tech:

I'm not building out of need, I'm doing it because I have a budget for it and I want to do it. However, I want to upgrade as opposed to side grade if that makes sense.

I'm switching from SLI to single card, so I will either go for a 1080ti or if that doesn't release I'll keep one 980ti until the next decent single card comes along from Nvidia. I'm keeping my X34A, so AMD is ruled out.

I have 3 cases to choose from (already owned), which is Parvum Veer 1.0, Parvum S2.0 or Corsair Air 540. Whichever way I go, it'll be a custom loop on CPU & GPU.

Question:

Is there a CPU on the horizon that will be an upgrade to my 5930k for around £500-£750? AMD or Intel, it doesn't matter as I have no brand loyalty with CPU's.

Nothing considerably better than what you already have to be honest.

Certainly not an improvement worth that sort of outlay.

That's a pity. I was hoping that the new AMD chips would be worth a go, or even force Intel to up their game. The only upgrade path from a 5930k right now appears to be a 6950x @ £1500.

Considering that I paid £440 for my 5930k back in February, it looks to have been an unintentional bargain.

Yes pretty good deal for that chip.

I'd stick with it for now rather than throwing money away for the sake of it.

What monitor do you have? Maybe worth spending the money there instead.

X34a. I'm not intending to change that until 21:9 144Hz 1440p comes along, I actually might hold out for 21:9 @ 4k 100Hz (which could well be a while yet, I know).
