New High End Build: Which x99 board?

Hey guys,

I am starting a high end build project and am probably going to put a Broadwell-E 6950X or a cheaper Haswell-E 5960X in it. So my question is thus:

What board should I go for?

I am already a current owner of the X99 MSI Godlike board, which I am a fan of and I am wondering, should I just use this board (but I'm thinking of building another machine with the existing 5930k I have in it, so maybe not) or should I plum for either the new Godlike Carbon or Asus Rampage V Extreme (3.1 ver)?

I am planning a watercooled 3 x 1080x SLI build once the new gpu's are released this week.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Cheers
Ben

The Godlike Carbon definitely meets the high-end spec and with a price tag to match most likely, when it's eventually released! There are a few new boards on the way from Gigabyte (questionable styling though) and Asus (no images or specs released yet), but I imagine the Godlike Carbon is going to have the most wow factor if that's what you're going for.

Thanks Legend, I am looking for a sleek board, feature rich and generally top of the line - the rgb lighting on the Godlike and lack of colour on the armor also gives me a warm fuzzy feeling... :D

I can pre order it from OCUK and very nearly pressed the danger button on that one... Depending on general consensus that is!

Cheers for your feedback mate

I didn't realise the Godlike was up for pre-order... wow that price is crazy lol! Does look very nice though although I personally couldn't justify spending £450 on a motherboard. If you want high-end though, that's the ticket!

There will be some new X99 released to coincide with broadwell-E CPUs, if you are prepared to wait.

Hey stulid, I guess that would mean end of May before the new ones are released? I will keep an eye out on here for news on the new kids on the block....

I can wait a few weeks, it will give me time to play with hardline tubing! ;)

Cheers

There's a thread a few bits down about X99, which I put a link to three new giga boards.

Bound to be others from Asus etc.

Am I right in thinking though that the current two boards are the right ones to be looking at - regardless of any new contenders. Have I missed any worth mentioning?

The new boards look built for the Japanese market! Very odd design ideas there... Let's hope the others come up with some more solid designs! :D

Possibly, guess it depends what your looking for? best sound, best overclocking, best bling shiny glowy bits etc.

MSI Godlike Carbon inside a SMA8... the stuff dreams are made on!

My dream rig at the moment, maybe I'll build it towards the end of the year!
