Hi,

Looking to build a new pc for gaming and would like some ideas, already have the graphics card, Monitor, Surround Sound System and sound card so just need everything else.

Looking for the best parts for below, and work is picking up the tab so money is no problem, just dont want to go mad and order the extreme edition of the Intel Core 2.

Need Pentium CPU(Most likely the Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz (1066FSB)), Mobo, 2Gb Ram, PSU(Best Performance and as quiet as possible), Scsi Hard disks, Scsi Controller, Aluminium Case,

which graphics card do you have? then we can base the rest of the system around that

theres no point ordering conroe say if your idea of a graphics card is an ati 7500 AGP....

for an extreme example

I have an ATI x850xt 256Mb AGP as a spare so was going to use that.

I'm not sure if there are any decent socket 775 motherboards that support AGP so you might have to consider changing the graphics card if you want Conroe, you could still go for a socket 939 system but it won't be as fast and limits your upgrade potential significantly.

Okay no probs i was looking at the ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X Crossfire Edition SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 (PCI-Express) or something similar so you could recommend a spec with this card

instead of that card ^^ get the HIS X1900XT as you can OC it to the near same speeds, plus its cheaper.

also get one 74GB WD Raptor HDD and what ever else you wanna get as raptor HDDs are nice a quick for loading things etc.

i think the Antec P180 is a snazzy looking case, plus its quite and got good cooling.

a nice DELL ULTRASHARP 2007WFP 20" monitor would go lovely with that graphics card.

I have Crucial Ballistix RAM in PC3200 format and that owns, so i reckon Crucial Ballistix in DDR2 format would be mint.

I think you should get:
HIS X1900XT 512MB
74GB WD RAPTOR HDD + any other HDD you want... seagate are good.
ANTEC P180 CASE
DELL ULTRASHARP 2007WFP 20"
2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 RAM
then add that Conroe CPU along with a compatible mobo and your sorted!

Just a few ideas :)

if you got the money and your willing to OC then you could get the 1950XTX it has GDDR4 which is supposedly faster, how much are you willing to spend? need some limits or im gonna spec you a rig for pushing £5000! :D

oh and stay clear of SCSI if you wanna be able to hear yourself think, SATA2 in the form of Raptors will be more than adaquate, go RAID0 if you wanna go crazy

Thanks Mattbill,

What is the best mobo out there for the conroe

im not sure, but Asus P5N32-SLi SE Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 (Socket 775) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-174-AS) looks good, it costs £140.99 on OCUK.
its SLi ready as well, so if you go for an nVidia card then you can get two....

i did find an ASUS socket 775 mobo with an AGP slot (if your wanting to save money on the graphics card for something else.... its Asus P5VD2-MX Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-163-AS) £44.64 on OCUK....

OR DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-020-DF) £140 thats a socket 775 mobo with CROSSFIRE incase you fancy putting two X1900XT's etc together for ultra uber insane performance.

personally im a DFI fan, cos their motherboards are of the best quality and stable as... so i would go for that... also gives the option of CROSSFIRING two X1900XT's.

what is your budget on this system?

I'd go for the Gigabyte DS4 mobo, Conroe E6600, 2x1Gb Geil PC6400 Low Latency RAM, Tagan 580w modular PSU, Antec P180, WD Raptor HDD(s).

The x1900xt will be a damn good card, but if you have the money then by all means go for the x1950xt ;)

I'd stay away from the Seasonic/P180 combo as the cables aren't all that long on the Seasonics. I'm sure you could get extensions, but the modular Tagans are extremely nice and would save you that hassle.

Imo the Geil PC6400 RAM would be a better buy than pretty much anything else listed on OcUK.

The Conroe E6600 is an awesome CPU with plenty of overclocking potential. Altho many people think 'I won't overclock this PC', after a few months the bug bites and they always want a go ;) Buying an E6600/DS4/Geil PC6400 + a decent PSU gives you this option if you want it.

Happy shopping :)

I am thinking along these lines at the mo

Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz (1066FSB)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ***Crossfire Edition*** SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 (PCI-Express)
DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-020-DF)
