So moved house to an owned house. And looking for a decent setup.

Last place I had a tiny flat and just used a usb-c to hdmi adapter and a long hdmi cable to connect my surface book to my av receiver

In past I've had a htpc (Windows os) connected to a server over powerline

What I'm looking for here is mainly media streaming only solution.

Ideally I'd like this to stream (over powerline or WiFi) from my home server.

I already have a chromecast for YouTube and Netflix so that's not needed.

What's the best solution? Htpc seems overkill. I'd like to be able to control it from my harmony remote

Edit.
Is it worth keeping windows home server or not?

You could run Plex or emby on top of home server afaik, but thought support for home server had stopped

Yeah I think it has too

Its annoying as I did like having my pics on there (dslr) so synced up to one drive. Just things like that
