Hi peeps,

Had great success before in this forum building my HTPC, but i just got home and my normal pc has died, its used for surfing, encoding the odd video, watching the odd film, itunes etc, ive managed to salvage a few parts from it Samsung F3 1TB. DVD RW Drive and I already have a monitor, keyboard mouse and that sort of stuff

Guess i am just after a smallish quiet case, motherboard, cpu, RAM, PSU and possibly an SSD, i already have windows 7 and looking to spend about £350.


I built my HTPC with a LLano and all ive ever built is AMD so ill stick to them i think

Do you have access to another PC to try and troubleshoot and find out what's wrong with your current system? What exactly is the issue with it? A "dead" pc could be any number of things?
 
I went for sandy bridge bulid for my most recent build as the cost/performance ratio can't be beaten by AMD, it may be a bit more to start with but you'll be using it for years to come
 
It looks like its the PSU, started making arcing noises and the 'On light was flashing like a goodun, its an ancient HP Pavilion Slimline with some random 150w PSU which HP sell for £150!!


That setup looks good!, i already have a CX430 sitting in a box here at the moment, ive never used MSI motherboards only Asus and Gigabyte, would any of these do? or is that suitable

The BeQuiet PSU is for my HTPC as the CX430 in it conflicts with it so ill swap them out, also have a 640gb Samsung M7 640gb ill put windows 7 on, happy days!
