Hey everyone,

I am looking to either build or buy a home server. I am thinking of using it for storage, media sharing, possibly hosting a game server and maybe some other things.

The game server is basically so I can play with a friend who lives at university. I believe this would be a solution to allow us to play together? Providing we use open ports at his university?

Is this viable? What do I need?

Thanks :)

If its just going to be you and a friend then you'll almost certainly be fine as its unlikely that one remote 'client' will saturate your upstream.

What will be the issue (if there is one) is whether your Uni friend will be able to connect to your server due to firewall restrictions their end.

Yer thats fine, guess I will have to come up with some other idea for the gaming side of things. Maybe rent a server from a company or just wait until I get BT infinity!

Thanks :)
