I don't know about you folks but I got so tired of hunting around for hosting provider comparison sites and either finding ones with bare 'name and link' only lists or advertising spammed pages that I eventually decided to do an independent volunteer run one myself:

http://www.host-review.co.uk

I've managed to track down about 218 UK hosts and added basic package and price details for all of them (took bloody ages lol). Naturally there's a review system, daily news (when I can find some), surveys, a jargon buster not to mention a few other features too.

The site itself hasn’t been publicly promoted just yet as I’m still fixing some bugs but any feedback would be great. Figured that since I buy all my kit from OcUK then I might as well mention it here first :) . So if any of you could post a review for your hosts to help test and get things started then /hug .

I don't know about you, but pimping your business on the forums is against the rules...

that'll be why they are an identical design. nice site but see no reason to switch over from ochostreview.

not sure if it's on purpose but i don't like the dark grey bar at the top, looks like it was a mistake, also think the navigation buttons should be the full height of the green so that when you hover over them the grey becomes the full green and the text will looks centralised.

btw not sure if you are allowed to pimp your own website so this may get taken down

Firstly I'll be negative; I have RTM'd this thread too as I think this is pimping your site rather than asking for critique... and that's not really fair. Considering none of us are allowed to do it, I don't like it when someone else gets away with it!

But secondly, (on a more constructive note!) you really really should use mod_rewrite because those URL's are f'ugly!!! ;) Search engines prefer decent and relevant urls too.

Also, you seem to be passing a lot of data in your URL's, I think you should avoid passing so much data if you don't really need to do it. With a bit of fiddling you could get your URL's like this:

myclothingsite.com/winter_clothes/

Rather than:

myclothingsite.com/cgi/exec/getpage.cgi?respage=1&perpage=10&orderby=name,type&var=value&etc=etc

... which is more user friendly, and is much more relevant to the page content.

Cheers for the feedback anyway, sorry about that, didn't realise. FYI the site isn't a business it's free.

I'd love to do SEO URLs but ModRewrite rules are not something I've ever been able to get my head completely around :) . I'm going to have another bash though.

One point - at the moment it's very difficult to see an overview of any posted reviews or any of the companies listed (it takes a few clicks to see anything useful)

Good luck with the site :)
