Anyone seen anything of the new HP 27" LCD screen? On face value it looks interesting at what seems to be a sensible price (£379 in the UK from HP).

Any thoughts on the spec from the monitor gurus around here?

Not sure what to make of it really, it's obviously a TN display, and for a 27" it's not a 'bad' price ...although you can get into 24" IPS for this price ...the only real issue I see with this HP is the lack of displayport.

When did you get the Dell UltraSharp 2407? The RRP was over £800 when it was popular, so if you're looking to replace it with something that is larger but lives up to or exceeds your expectations of quality you may need more than a sub-£400 budget. Iiyama have some fine 27 inch monitor choices for less.

Think mine is an A02 revision and cost ~£600ish at the time.

Budget wise I'm keeping an eye open for a 27" that will match or exceed the 2407 for multipurpose use (gaming/work/web/Xbox etc) at around the same sort of price.

I'm yet to find anything at that price/performance that people can recommend. Having said that, the increasing availability of "budget" 27" screens could bring some of the high end £800 options (like the new Dell) down to my price range.

I suspect i'm getting towards the end of a waiting game :)

Yeah... and since Dell has also released their new U2211H and U2311H monitors at very reasonable prices the lovely U2711 will hopefully come down in price soon. I haven't really used a lot of 27 inchers, but I have used the U2711 and the resolution and overall quality of the panel made for an excellent experience.

If you are wanting a 27in that is basically a step-up in size from the 2407WFP, then you may want to have a look at the 2709W. This monitor uses a S-PVA panel and has a resolution of 1920x1200 (the same as the 2407) but is 27in diagonally. This does mean that the pixels are a bit bigger - but I find they are a good size and not too big (I myself upgraded from a Dell 2408 to this monitor).

Unfortunately, it seems like the 2709W is end of life now as it was replaced by the lovely (but much more expensive) U2711. However, if you know where to look, you can still find 2709W monitors. However, most will be either second-hand or refurbished - so make sure you are happy with the warranty arrangement before you decide to buy one of these.
