Hi
I have spent weeks trying to spec a new htpc build.
Priorities for the machine are:
- Quiet
- pvr functionality (capture via firewire firedtv receiver)
- divx playback
- dvd playback
- some games
- Overclocking is not important
- Stability is important

- sound will come via a cambridge audio azur amp for 5.1 sounds
- will be connected to Hitachi 42" plasma (1024x768)

The spec I have finally come up with is:
Case: Silverstone LCM20M 152.74
Graphics: Gigabyte 256mb 7600gt 117.74
Sound: HDA Digital X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect 84.54
Processor: Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo oem 117.48
Heatsink: Thermalright SI-120 (with Socket 775 Clip) 41.49
PSU: Seasonic S12 430W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-000-SS) 51.69
Mobo: Abit AB9 Pro 111.61
Ram: GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL) 152
Hard Drive 1: Samsung SpinPoint T HD401LJ 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM 97.47
Hard Drive 2: Samsung SpinPoint T HD401LJ 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM 97.47
Case Fan 92mm: SWiF-922 92mm Case Fan 9.5
Case Fan 80mm: SWiF-801 80mm Case Fan 8

I am worried about the following:
Will it all fit in the case? Is the motherboard a good choice.
Do I need the sound card? Is the thermalright 120 heatsink a good choice (and will it fit in the case)?

Thanks for any advice.

Think the 6400 is an overkill 4 htpc personally, cellyd would do the job. What else u inteding using it 4

Sorry some games there. What games...tetris plays fine on my p1

pbly just tetris and oblivion :)

this will not be my main gaming pc but I would like the option of gaming on the plasma, so it will be the latest games on the highest detail I can get away with. Things like Ghost Recon etc.

Agree, on the 6300.

I would be happy with a cheaper hsf but have struggled to find one that it is both quiet and not too tall for the case?

The gigabyte gfx card I was going to go for has passive cooling: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2235

I was going for the Samsung based on the review here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article657-page3.html

Samsung Spinpoint T HD400LJ
Idle 20 dBA@1m
Seek (AAM) 21 dBA@1m
Seek (Normal) 22-23 dBA@1m

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS
Idle 24 dBA@1m
Seek (Normal) 28-34 dBA@1m

The samsung seems quite a lot quieter (although the seagate capacity is much higer).
