Hi All,

I'm looking to build my own HTPC. Basic requirements are that it should be fast to boot/start, should have large storage capacity (min. 1TB), Blu-Ray, possible to connect to a SKY+ box to copy recordings and have good video card. Naturally it should be energy efficient and cool/quiet. Keyboard/mouse and remote should be put into the spec too please.

I'm ok to spec a normal gaming rig, but never really looked at HTPC setups...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

details of my htpc buid can be found here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18105919
you could add a gfx card like this instead of the 2600xt i used for some extra power and still be silent - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-194-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1274
change the hd dvd drive i used to one of these - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-004-OP&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=314
i don't know much about sky+ or tv cards but im sure someone will be able to suggest a suitable one for you.

i use one of these cyberlink remotes that you can pick up for under a tenner -

and i just plug in my standard usb keyboard and mouse when needed but it all runs fine from the remote for what i use it for.
but if you want a wireless keyboard and mouse i'd recommend one of these accuratus toughballs as we use them in work everyday and they are very sturdy and work well -

Afaik there is no way of copying recordings from sky+ without playing back the recording in real time and capturing the output. It means the sky+ box can't be used for anything else whilst this is happening (other than making another recording in the background). Because of this limitation most htpc's record directly and don't use sky+.
