Hey All,

Been ages since I last posted on the forums. Just Ordered myself a bike and was messing around doing some research when google brought up an OCUK page. Hadn't even thought to look on here for help :) BTW last time I rode a bike was almost 20 years ago.

Well after a few months of researching/trying I've finally settled on a Cannondale Badboy Fatty R4 2012, and ordered one yesterday. Do you guys think I made a good choice?
I'll be using mainly for a commute on decent roads, and also to help me get my fitness up and shed a few pounds.
So far I've ordered the following accessories:
A kryptonite newyork d lock
A set of cateyes lights
A multitool

Will be checking out a helmet tomorrow.
Could someone recommend a good puncture repair kit? Tyre levers and saddlebag please.
Thanks
Meds

As for levers I personally use park tools ones. They have never snapped on me or any of my friends where as other brands have.

You can get them here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7205

as for repair kits i just use the quick stick patches (variants of park tools and slime ones etc, whatever I buy at the time) they can also be found here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7206

Alternatively you can get them both together in a kit here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5790

When it comes to puncture repair i tend to fix the flat on the ride and then replace the tube at a later date. Depending on your inner tube size you can buy them in bulk and keep 1 or 2 with you.

As for the bike it all depends what kind of riding you are looking to do.
Again as I ALWAYS say, others will be better of telling you what is good on your bike and are far more knowledgeable than I.

I urge you to get a helmet before you ride. I know it sounds stupid but until you have had an accident you don't appreciate how important they are.

as for your lock it seems pretty decent, however as most will tell you, if you are looking at locking you bike up or leaving it in the street unattended, you will need more than one lock to secure everything properly.

Also exercise a bit of common sense, Take your saddle with you when you leave the bike, most bike thief's are looking for an easy sale, and selling a bike without a seat post and saddle is too much trouble for them.

Thanks for the detailed response Musty, I went to a cycle surgery today, but unfortunately they didnt have the helmet I was looking for in my size.

Im looking at buying the specialized Echelon, in M. I did try another specialized helmet in Medium and that fit.
Would that mean that a Medium Echelon would fit me? If thats the case I'll order one online :)

Its hard to say helmets can be very hit and miss with sizes. Or at least they have been in my experience.

Buy online anyway and if it doesnt fit you can always send it back!

You got yourself other essentials like a pump etc? And remember its getting darker and colder soon so lights might be required.

Hi Guys,

Sorry didnt respond earlier I have been at work. I'll provide some links on the stuff I've bought already:

This will probably be my helmet, although when I tried on a specialized in the shop, I must say I thought I looked rather stupid :(

I have also ordered the puncture repair kit that musty suggested :)

The Bike that I have ordered has 700 x 28c Tyres, could someone suggest some some Inner Tubes please? and a Portable pump, at the moment I'm thinking of these:

And the Pump:

Also on a final note which of these 2 locks would choose as a good secondary?
