Hi,
I recently won a £125 voucher off a laptop with a certain brand, i am looking to get a new laptop for my parents. They will not use it for games. Mainly Internet, office programs and maybe dvd playback.

Is this a good spec, its £550, but i wolud get it for £425

My only question mark is the CPU, is it fast enough to do the above and nortons ant-virus as i know its a system hog.

•Featuring Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium for a superior digital entertainment experience
•An Intel Core i3 350M processor for incredible performance
•4GB memory for top system performance
•500 GB Hard Drive for storing all your digital files
•A 17.3" LED High-Definition HP BrighView display
•Experience High-Definition with Intel HD graphics
•Finished in Biscotti with a stylish Prism pattern
•Create silkscreen-quality disc labels with LightScribe, watch movies and more with the Double Layer SuperMulti DVD±RW
•1 year, pick-up and return, warranty. Optional upgrade to 3 years accidental damage cover for peace of mind
•Featuring Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an Integrated Webcam & Microphone, ideal for social networking and communications

Many Thanks

Its a good laptop. Battery will be the factor. Are you using at home or on the road?

With £550 you can buy better laptop than this. Don't rush on it.. Be patience. Price is going down slowly. I would wait :D

acer laptops are really cheaper these days :) But I hear bad support from them. You should get good laptop around £450 to £460. Keep doing research on google..

What sort of spec are you looking for m8?

Looks like an HP G72. The i3 is really ok for laptops and general use. Norton is a system hog, and a P.I.T.A. tbh.

Better kick it into touch and install Avast / AVG, or just Microsoft Security Essentials, all free and much better.

Battery life imo will be good, a i3 doesn't eat batteries, and a 17'' would at least get a 6 cell battery compartment. 17'' would get a 900p screen, also good.

for £425, looks like a good deal. If you have the model number, that'd be handy. For £550, you have Samsungs and Acers to check out as well. Maybe even Sony's.

well its has to be a HP laptop as the voucher is for HP laptops only, and yes it is the HP G72-b20sa Laptop PC i was looking at.

I think it should do the trick for my parents, battery life wont be too important as most of the time it will be on a desk, but they will take it with them when they go traveling or on holiday.
