Hi, just put my new cpu in and unfortunately am having problems with the ram.. I have8gb Kingston hyper X beast and only one ram at a time works... Tried them in all different slots etc, just curious to know whether this is timing or voltage problems with new cpu or anything as the ram worked perfectly with my i5 2500k..

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks...

Put a bit more voltage to the memory controller (IMC) and put both sticks in. It may need a bit more voltage to get it going :) Does only just one of the two sticks work as well? As in, does one of the sticks work and the other not work at all?

Thanks for reply

It's not that they don't work.. 1 works.. On both sticks, no matter what oone I put in.. But when they are in together all the fans on pc run for about 6 seconds and pc restarts!.. Willhhigher the voltageaa bit as youssaid see if get any closer :)

I have similar issues to this with my Asus R3E and Corsair Dominator GT ram.

If I take out all the ram and put them back in, sometimes all the ram sticks don't work,
don't register and I have to change them around the ram slots and put them back in a
few times to get all available ram to register.

I am not sure if this is due to an issue with one or more of the ram sticks
or the ram slots itself or the memory controller.

All I know is it never used to do this.

are you running latest mb bios?

@sylver checked cpu cooler isn't too tight? a flexing motherboard can also cause intermittent ram slot problems, where the copper traces inside the boards pcb can fracture and occasionally make contact or not

wazza300, Thanks for the suggestion.

I will try and loosen my cpu cooler a little bit to see if this is the cause of the issue.

The issue I am having doesn't happen all the time just sometimes.

As the Noctua NH-D14 is quite heavy, the board might also be bending slightly.

This might also cause some things not to contact correctly with the pins inside
the slots as well. Couldn`t it?

Are you running everything at stock ? Or overclocking?

Check wazza's post about over tight CPU coolers, had this on my old i7 920 using a h50. Had 12gb and sometimes it would only boot with 8gb ? Cooler was to tight.

Only other thing I can suggest is to run memtest from USB stick.

Once CPU changed, did you reset BIOS to defaults ? It's a must sometimes in upgrades.

What's the motherboard type ?

BTW, don't raise memory voltage as you might burn memory controller located in CPU. You might try to set memory (having put 1 stick only) to 1333 and 1.5V, timings 9-9-9-24-2T = SAVE SETTINGS, turn PC off, put second stick to appropriate slot (see manuals & slot numberings) turn PC on and see if it works together. Wazza's suggestion might be most close to your case where CPU has been changed.

@sylver its normal for it to flex slightly

its only if you press down hard on the board ect while installing the cooler that damage might happen, even more so with the intel pushpin coolers

too tight a cooler cuts off the signal from cpu to memory banks im guessing?
