New i7 build - No power/flashing LED

Hey guys,
Having some issues with my new build. Being a first time builder it was all rather exciting and nerve racking so I spent a considerable amount of time last night following guides and setting up the components. When it came to booting up, there was nothing, not even a whir of a fan.

I decided to take the MOBO, RAM, VGA card and PSU out of the case. All I am getting though is a quick orange LED next to the ram modules and nothing else. I have tried using each individual ram component in each of the slots but to no avail. Any ideas as to what I can do? Pretty stumped myself.

My build is as follows;
i7 920
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Corsair HX 650W
Corsair XMS3 6GB 1333mhz
Sapphire 5850
Noctua nh-d14

Thanks,
Ben

RAM in the correct slots? did this on my build.

If that fails try one stick at a time, also is the 8 pin for cpu power in as well as the 24 pin ATX.
Try a CMOS reset :)

I've just tried testing the PSU and that powered the fans I had connected to it so I assume that's working fine and also tried removing and replacing CMOS. Could it be a faulty motherboard or the fact it's only bringing up errors as regards to the RAM suggest it's fine but the RAM may not?

this sounds simple, but when you turn the power on at the wall, after that have you actually pressed the power button on the p.c after????? im saying this because when i built mine i had same problem, i thought it would have auto powered up like my prevouis build before but it didnt lol

I am having the exact same problem as the OP an its really frustrating. I am also using i7 920, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, Corsair HX 650W and Corsair XMS3 6GB RAM. Ananokki have you made any further progress?

Generally these problems are power issues. Like yesterday I rebuilt my machine and realised I hadn't plugged the CPU 8-pin power in (doh).

Check and recheck all power connections (24-pin and 8-pin especially). Check and recheck all data connections. Try a minimal boot with just the CPU, RAM and graphics plugged in.

You did both use standoffs didn't you?

Ive checked all connections, tried reseating the CPU, swapping the RAM about and removing the Graphics card. Theres no activity on the keyboard and I cannot hear the HD spinning up. CPU Fan is okay and there is power going through the motherboad. Not sure what else to try. Apologies for hijacking the thread.

Hey, is there any LED's on the board that is lit constant, as most motherboards have a LED that is always lit to signal that there is power going to the board, even if it is just a little bit. Also is the 24 pin ATX power plug plugged in all the way, as sometimes these 20+4 pins that slide on the side can sometimes not clip in in line with the main plug.

Also are you using th 4 pin CPU power plug or the 8 pin, as im sure you need to use a 8 pin to power the CPU, and not a single 4 pin. Looking at the manual for the motherboard, the LED are something to do with voltage probably failing at the CPU stage. I would still check and use a known working PSU, as my PSU just failed and it was not starting the system, but I could run fans and run fans on a old system down stairs until it failed completely on that machine.

I apologise for the late reply guys. Turns out after finally sorting out my issue, a stupidly trivial one at that, my phone line and internet are down so I couldn't check back at the forum! My problem was that being the simple personality that I am I went ahead with the Power header and put it in the pins that were the same colour as the wire; fail.

Still, thanks for the input! Only issue that I'm having now is the system seems to be idling at 38c, which sounds far too hot for a Noctua nh-d14 heatsink cooling the CPU. I have tried reseating it twice but there's not much change. However, this has been my first time using TIM so maybe I have used that incorrectly. I'm adamant if anything I used not enough, if that's possible, than too much. Thanks for any help.
