Hi, first post here.
I would be grateful if someone could look over the specs for my build, here goes!

Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) – Retail £255.29 inc VAT

Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £247.24 inc VAT

Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz (3x2GB) Triple Channel DDR3 £63.99 Inc VAT

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) Retail (90-C1CLC0-J0UAY00Z) £121.89 inc VAT

Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366) £57.49 inc VAT

I have from my current build an Arctic 600W PSU, 2 x Samsung 500GB and 1 x Samsung 1TB HD's. lian Li PC-60 case.

I will be using x64 Vista and probably windows 7 when released.
Main uses will be photoshop CS4 extended mainly for panos and HDI landscapes (big files from canon 5D). Im using CS2 with 939MB and Opteron for my canon 30D at the moment so i am expecting a nice speed increase ;-)

My questions are:-

Do i need faster memory to over clock to 3.6GHz, i am not worried about much faster as long as it is stable.

Will the cooler fit in my case, i think it might be a tight squeeze (210mm wide)

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome

Firstly you dont need a retail version of the CPU, you'll just be binning the HSF that comes with it anyway, just get the OEM, that'll save you a few quid. Secondly I would look at this RAM, its not much more and its faster with lower latencies and will give you that safe headroom for clocking. Other thing is do you really need the deluxe version of the board? If so fair enough but it might be worth looking at the plain version, again shave a few quid. Finally re the CPU cooler fitting the case, not sure sorry, maybe someone who has the case can let you know. Good luck with the build anyway

it would be worth getting a retail cpu if ur wanting a 3 year warantee as oem chips only give 1 year.

Thanks for advice, the idea of the delux MB was that it had 16+2 Phase Power and I thought this may be more stable for OCing. But if the standard board is OK that's fine with me. Thanks for the memory advice, it seems to be falling in price all the time now! I am probably going to be ordering in 2 weeks.

Thanks again for advice.

afaik the deluxe just has slightly better cooling (heatpipe design) and the phase power thing (which supposedly makes OC more stable????), I may be wrong though
