Need help guys got a bit of a dilema!
At the moment I have an i7 920 (4GHz @ 1.25V HT enabled) on an x58 Extreme, a Palit 4870x2 @ 800/4GHz (takes up 3 slots!) Xonar DX, 6 case fans, 3 HDD's one DVD-ROM. With the uP fully loaded (all 8 cores) it draws about 480W according to an energy meter. Think it should be about the same when gaming as all 8 cores wont be stressed so much! My question is I got hold of a cheap 9800GT green edition (75W) I was thinking about putting that into my system as a physX card, would the PSU be sufficient? It's a HX620W. Thanks in advance! Other idea was to sell the 4870X2 and go for a more efficient 5870 with a view to Xfire in the future. Opinions please,
Jonnygrunge.

Hi,

your best bet would definately be upgrading to the 5870. Getting the physx to work alongside the ATI card could be tricky.

As for your psu it will probably be ok with the 5870 as they are quite power efficient, however running the 9800gt with the 4870X2 would be pushing it a bit.

overall it would be best to buy the 5870 and then save yourself upgrading your psu.

I have Windows 7 (64bit) which allows for multi GPU's from different manufacturers (I think!) it is all down to whether nVidia's drivers allow for it! Thanks for the advice, yeah I really dont want to have to shell out for another PSU, will the HX620 handle Xfire of two 5870's? When do you expect stock?
