new i7 crash during prime95

Hi just built a new i7 pc, have not overclocked and have no plans to, components below:

cpu - i7 920 D0
mobo - Asus p6t SE
gpu - powercolor radeon 4890
ram - patriot viper 6gb 12800
psu - Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W Power Supply
case - nzxt apollo
cpu cooler - Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro Xtreme Rev 2

The pc seemed to be stable but shutdown unexpectedly whilst it was idling (after a day and a half of use).
During stress testing with prime 95 the pc shut down after about 20mins. The CPU temperature had been at 64C and the highest core temp was at 59C.
I initially thought it was a temperature problem but the temps i believe are fine. Any other ideas? I was thinking maybe a psu problem.

Oh forgot to say, when the pc shut down the first time whilst idling it wouldn't turn on again, i left it half hour (thinking it was the heat) but still didn't turn on, I had to pull the power lead out and bk in before it turned bk on
 
ok i just tried running memtest and the pc doesn't even make it to the ASUS screen anymore. The mobo and led lights come on for 3 seconds then die, it waits about 5 seconds and tries again.

Any help would be really useful

ok - progress. Quickly plugged a spare 530w psu into the motherboard (only the 24pin and 4 pin) and the fans + LEDs span up and stayed on.

So is that conclusive its the PSU? Why would the PSU be broken? Thanks so much for your help i was really panicing

you guys are awesome.
Plugged in my new psu and it worked aswell... continued adding hardware bk to the pc all working. Then i had a few shutdowns, i am pretty sure it is a short somewhere - there are some wires behind a steel HDD rack so i guessing its them. After wiggling them it started fine so know i just need to find the culprit.
