Mooching... in your house
I have just installed windows 7 on my boot camp partition but when i put the os x disk in to grab all the necessary drivers i get an error saying something along the lines of "boot camp x64 is not compatible with this hardware"

anyone know if i'm actually doing something wrong or is there maybe an alternate place to get all these drivers?

well... it comes down to this, i read through the stuff i could find and it all seemed to point to needing a modified MSI install file.

I tried it with one i downloaded, then i tried with one i modified myself, and still no luck. The installer started but all sorts of errors get kicked up (unsigned driver problems for example plus others)...

any ideas? i just want windows 7 on my iMac and for it to be able to use all 4GB of ram since all i really want windows there for is gaming... so the 32 bit version won't cut it... why on earth did Apple not include the necessary bits and bobs?

I've had no problem with my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 x64 using the Boot Camp drivers from off of the CD. Try running installation file for Boot Camp in Compatibility mode for Vista, and as an Admin, which you can find under properties.

just tried your suggestion Draeconis and i'm still getting the x64 not compatible error...

has any of you chaps managed to get windows 7 x64 onto a new imac? i thought of maybe putting the drivers on separately and i think the keyboard one went on fine but dont really know if the chipset ones went through ok... can't find a sound driver and although the ati 4850 drivers seemed to go on ok (got a "succesful" at the end) i still can't get the proper res and the display properties still say "(Default Display) on" and nothing else...

could anyone help me out?

surely this is a really common thing to want to do, but i can't find a good solid solution anywhere has no one done this?

It seems there is no simple way to do this so has anyone just got a link to working sound and viideo drivers? The official ATi ones don't work for some strange reason...

I hope you are aware that there are dedicated Mac forums out there?

Have you tried looking on Mac Rumors' forums especially this thread?

Apple is highly unlikely to provide drivers and support for an operating system that has not yet reached retail availability.

I thought Windows 7 used the Vista drivers?

You're probably experiencing a problem with the built in Microsoft drivers that ship with Windows 7. For example, when I chucked Vista on my Mac Pro the Wi-Fi was installed automagically (along with other drivers). However, trying to use the Wi-Fi was horrendous, it wasn't until I un-installed the Windows-installed driver and told it to use the driver on the OS X disc did it actually work.

Windows Vista wasn't reporting hardware or software problems (which initally stumped me) but the Wi-Fi speed would vary wildly, so it goes to show what a load of tosh the bundled driver was.

In fact I worked the issue out myself and posted the solution on Mac Rumors, so I was well chuffed :)

i installed w7 no problems at all, then after trying multiple ways to get the bootcamp thing to install (and failing) i thought i'd do em one by one...

tbh if i could find working 4850 and sound drivers i don't really care much about the rest, no bluetooth isn't a big drama, keyboard stuff is nice but not a necessity, i'd probably like chipset drivers to get the best out of games but no idea where i'd go for them...

maybe the snow leopard bootcamp 3 drivers would work? i've heard it is available if you know where to look... anyone tried these?

just as a heads up to people... i stuck the latest build on and the graphics, bluetooth etc worked straight away :) the only thing not working is the sound (oh and the isight) so does anyone know which driver is needed to get the sound going?
