New iMac, or even upgraded specs?

I'm about to make the PC to Mac jump, and as such, I'm not aware of when the current iMac range was launched, or the seemingly newer one with the 8800GS aswell. Is it worth waiting for a couple of months? I take it there is a product cycle of what 18 months or so? I'd be prepared to hold out for a while for an increase in specs, as lets face it, once you have committed, upgrading is a bit impossible!

Thanks!

It's in mid-cycle according to this and there shouldn't be any changes until January or so, maybe a bit after.

If you need one now, get one. If you can wait around and fancy seeing whats coming up, there shall most likely be a minor bump in specs.

I know it wasn't the answer you were looking for. :D

The iMac is the product that best describes what Apple are trying to do at the moment, both environmentally with the materials and more importantly, cosmetically with the black and aluminum.

The design is very unlikely to change in my opinion and if they only bump the CPU up by 0.2Ghz or so, then the wait will not have been really worth it.

As I said, if you have a craving for one, just get one as soon as you can. There's always waiting to see what comes along but it's not like you would be disappointed with what's currently available. :)

Do it now or you will be waiting for ever. I ended up going for the iMac with 8800GS because I was coming over from a windows PC and thought it would be cool to play games within vista Via bootcamp. Had my iMac about 4 months now and have not booted into vista in all that time so it was pointless me really going for the top end model.

Little tip if you do get any iMac upgrade the ram from 2GB to 4GB (but not with Apple). I got a 4GB set for £65 online and it makes all the difference. :D

I have the 2.8 version and am more than happy. I changed from a quad core sli system and actualy find the mac faster and more responsive.

Don't wait as the bump will likely only be a small one and not worth the wait.

I have the 3.06ghz version and it hasn't had any trouble with games like Spore in OS X and plays World in Conflict fine under vista (think I have only booted into vista twice so far though!)

Its great - get one now!

Can only second what's been said - I've gone for the top end one (3.06ghz, 8800gs card) and it's supposed to be great - hopefully Justin will come into this thread and back me up!
As mentioned already, go buy a 4gb set from somewhere else, will be worth it :)
