Right. I've just got my new Imac rigged up (base spec, nothing exciting) and I'm just wondering about the peripherals...

Keyboard - A bunch of the keys are in the wrong place. Is this the norm, or have I been sent a US keyboard or something?

Mouse - Is there any software than can make the Magic Mouse recognise a right click without my lifting my first finger off the mouse? If not, then it's going back in the box, pretty though it may be.

Regarding the mouse - No, that's how it works. What keys do you have in the wrong place? If it has a £ symbol then it's a UK keyboard so it may just be some location settings that are incorrect.

The @ and " are swapped i.e. @ is on the 2 key and " is two keys to the right of L. The key with \ and | is swapped with the key with ` and ~. There's no... ha, was trying to type it... no hash symbol anywhere.

Long story short, the wife won't stand for this, so I think the old USB keyboard and mouse will be coming back out.

The @ is supposed to be on the 2 key etc, are you saying that it's wrong on the keyboard itself or that it's just different to what you're used to?

That's the Apple keyboard for you!

Different to what I'm used to I guess... Every British keyboard I've ever seen has had the @ over by the return key, so it's jarring for it to suddenly be on the 2.

welcome to the crazy world of Apple where 2 is @ and the hash key is hidden!

i'm sure you'll get used to it over time.... don't spoil it's looks by adding some random wired keyboard to it yet before you have given it a chance.

Ditto. Only had my new iMac a week and I'm already used to it. She'll learn in no time the layout.

Go and download something called magicprefs. Im pretty sure that will allow you to have right click enabled when 2 fingers are on the mouse.

Really good app anyway. You can set the areas that left-click, right-click and middle click occupy. Set what a 2 and 3 finger clicks do etc.

I've had a quick look at the website for Magicprefs and I can't see that mentioned - It's such a major thing that if they'd got around the issue then I'm sure they'd be shouting it from the rooftops!

The magic mouse (and the old mighty mouse) can't report whether the right and left sensor are activated at the same time. They will only register a right click if there is no contact on the left side.

Which I think is pretty rubbish really, but neither the mighty or magic mouses fit my hands so I'm more than happy with my Logitech MX518.
