Unplug the data lead from the new hard drive. See if your pc still boots. If it does, good. Then reconnect it, go in to bios and make sure your pc won't try to boot from the new drive.
Yep. Windows repair disc should do the trick. I've had same problem in the past. Just try to make sure, once windows repair is finished, the new hard drive will not be seen as a boot drive. Maybe bios will allow you to do that. What I did though was hot plug the new drive, disc manager then formatted it. No problems from then on.
