Ive recently bought a new hard drive so have had to install XP etc. Ive never had any issues with the hard ware i have now yet when i come to install the sound drivers (onboard realtek hd audio) the sound device doesnt seem to exist. I have checked in device manager and there isnt anything related to the realtek sound there, i have installed the latest drivers and software to no avail and i have checked the bios to ensure it is enabled. I really am lost as to what to try next. Ive never had this problem before?

The motherboard is an abit IP35-E if that helps!

I would be hugely greatful if you guys have any other idea's as to what i'm missing and where i'm going wrong!

Cheers, Rob

I bet you need to install the Microsoft high-definition audio driver before you install the Realtek drivers.

You can download it from here. Install that and then try installing the Realtek drivers again.

Yeh i had read about that but it didnt fix it for me in the end. I solved this by going through device manager and i found an item calle 'pci device' which had a yellow '?' besides it. I right clicked then update driver (from XP cd) and it all started working! Very strange.

Now i have a completely different problem. It appears the output from the computer is now so much higher its ridiculous. My amp is having to be turned right down now and the master volume is now set right near the bottom. This was deffinately never the case before, how strange, does anyone have any solutions?

Cheers, Rob
