I've just finished building a computer with the following spec:

AMD X2 4800+
Asus A8N-sli premium
2gb RAM
512mb 7900gtx
160gb hard drive

I installed windows xp pro on it - which went fine. I then installed the chipset drivers - again no problems. When i installed the latest nvidia drivers, the computer booted up after the restart, when to the xp loading screen, then went blank (no signal input). I tried it on a different monitor, same thing. I managed to boot into windows using safe mode and vga mode, but no matter which drivers I use, it doesn't boot into windows after drivers are installed

Any ideas?

hi mate, I don't have sli - just single card. More info on the system though, i'm running an antec truepower 450w

It doesn't matter if you don't have SLI it is almost certainly the same problem I had but you only have to connect two monitors up. Once you have done so you can set the correct monitor as the primary one and you won't need the second one to be attatched.

The alternative is to remove all nvidia drivers (inc chipset) and run drive cleaner and even that is not guarenteed. If you have Ghost take an image of Windows immediately after installing it from CD, then you won't have to reinstall from scratch if drivers get corrupted during install

Tried that now mate - still no luck. Reinstalled windows 4 times now. Everything is fine until I install any graphics drivers - then the screen either goes blank during installation (and doesn't comes back) or the computer starts to boot (xp loading screen) and then goes blank :( . Cheers for the help though matey

Yeah - still no luck there - trying a different power supply later - i've been told that might solve the problem!

I had the same thing

I also had the blank screen issue when I first installed my RIG.

I have a x2 4400+ with Asus A8n-SLi premium , 7800GTX.

For me I plugged my DVI to DVI into my monitor's DVI input, then connected the VGA/DVi converter, and used a 2nd cable to the VGA input. I got life on the monitor and I was able to set the primary properly.

I managed to sort the problem last night. It was a bios setting (one of the sli ones). Computer works like a dream now, thanks for all of your help!
