I'm currently building a new PC with SATA HD and DVD and everything is going fine except that when it shows the available HD to install Windows on, it shows 131069mb partition when the SATA drive is actually 5gb. Should I be worried about this? It didn't seem to need any 3rd party SATA driver during the initial windows setup, although I didn't try it.

Is this because I should have put the motherboard CD in and found the SATA driver on there, or is this just a peculiarity of windows and it'll see all of the drive when Windows is installed?

May I ask what motherboard you have? I believe I had this problem with my Asus A7n8x deleuxe board...

May be worth trying to install an F6 driver, it's not as if it's going to hamper performance or anything, it's just a driver theoretically...But probably better than the windows default :)

Think I may have solved it, although I won't know until the installation completes. Apparently it's a known problem with Windows XP installations (pre SP1a/SP2) in that it only recognises up to 137gb. I'm installing anyway, and I'll see what it can see once I've got SP2 on there.

It'd be nice to have someone confirm this though ;)

Wej, you are correct. I had this issue a few years back when I installed a new 200GB HDD. It's an easy fix, just can't remember it !

Funnily enough I just created a 100gb partition, installed Windows, installed SP2 and voila - the rest of the disk was there. I was going to partition anyway, so it's no skin of my nose :)
