Are the new Intel chips to be released on the 6th September and available on this website then?

I know the new i3, i5 and i7's are replacing the 775 socket chips, so can someone explain which is dual core and which is quad core?

Will the new chips be better for gaming and overclocking than the already i7's?

Finally will the current price of the i7 drop when the new ones are sold?

Those are expecting specific answers to very general questions, but I shall try.

1/Uncertain. They're selling in America and various Asian countries, and will get here when they do.

2/I'm not going to attempt this. There's considerable complexity involved, someone will be along shortly with a graph for you to stare at.

3/They will be slower. They will be the same speed for any gaming which is gpu limited; which much of it is. Some samples are looking to overclock well, but for what I'd have hoped are obvious reasons we don't know how well they will overclock in general.

4/Unlikely. Not in the immediate future at least, I suspect they will increase slightly but time will tell.

Depends on your budget what your using the computer for.

The new ones will be slower but cheaper also the mobo and ram will be cheaper supposedly. the newer ones use a different socket so you can't upgrade to the older ones or i9 when it comes out

I will probably get a i7 as gettignthe i7 motherboard you get the more powerfull chips and it looks i9 will b socket1366 so in the future should the i9 be cheeper u can get the much bigger chips and much more upgrade potential in the future. I dont think i will want to downgrade to i5s.

You'll be able to get i7's for the lga1156 motherboards :)

well I would really like to my system to have upgrade potential as this is the main reason for buying it so I will get a i7 1366.

Which will still be dual channel rather than triple channel RAM though as far as i'm aware?

Unless you do rendering or very serious encoding, you'll never use the bandwidth offered by tri channel DDR3 -it's like having a road with 20 lanes and not much traffic. It's completely wasted on home users. Even dual channel DDR3 is still too much for home users. And it's cheaper.

You can get i7 chips on lga1156  the 860 and 870 are i7s

All this is just speculation, but I'm suspicious that s1366 is going to become a trophy platform like amd's s940. I think it will become very expensive to upgrade it.

i9 will have 6 cores, but all that heat will probably mean lower clocks. None of this is ideal for gaming (4 cores with higher clocks will perform better in games). I doubt that i9 will ever be cheap.

Totally agree with this. If you do rendering and need the power and have £600 to drop on an i9 chip later then get a S1366 mobo and i7 now. If not, then i5 is shaping up to be the gamer/overclockers choice. Ths s1156 gets sata3, usb3, pci-3 and 32nm cpus before the s1366 platform.

Thanks, I'm tempted to go for i5 now, aslong as there is an upgrade path for this aswell.
