New Intel CPUs and GPUs?

Hey up,

Just looking about upgrades, but I have been wondering when the next set of intel chips are due out? I know we just had the X99's and the Z97's but I'm planning to upgrade by Xmas and wondering is there any gain (aside from small price drops) to waiting?

Also, when are some new GPUs coming out? I heard the 970's are excellent, but I'm wondering if some new ones will be out soon(ish) that will be able to handle 4k gaming a bit easier? (as if so, I can just get a 4k screen now and downscale the graphics.. just means I can desktop at 4k).

Thanks,

Grady

A half dead z97 SOC gigabyte motherboard (need to rma it, but it half works), the 20 year edition pentium CPU, a sapphire 290 and 4gb of ram (other 4gb got lost ...).

Bit of a mish mash. Looking to sell the MB after I RMA it, is the 3rd giga one I've had that's broken. Going to use the ram and CPU to build a small arcade cabinet.

RMA the board (Why does it half work?!) as it's a very good motherboard and grab a 4690k or 4790k, next iterations of chips are next year.

If you want 4K gaming, maybe another 290 to X-Fire or sell the 290 (they're dropping in price) and grab 2 970's.

Intel CPU wise the next release will be broad well. Its touted to run on the Z97 chipset, which is good news, though as its only a die shrinkage I doubt we'll see a huge leap.. Just a more power friendly CPU. No dates are out for this yet but I'd guess at early next year

The next socket will be for skylake/skymount..

As GPU's go, the AMD 3**'s are the vest to look out for. Not sure how they'll handle 4k but I expect them to be around the same as the 970/980 as the 290/290Xs were against the 780/780ti

Id suggest you grab a 4790k and a working motherboard Z97.

Not sure... but it will only turn on if I flick the switches that change the bios from number 1 to 2 and the switch that changes it from single bios to duel bios. Then if I want to turn it on again, I have to do the opposite. Makes no sense. I've re-done the bios's and everything I can think of.

I was thinking about the 6 core CPUs as I will be doing some CAD work that could use the extra firepower, its the GPUs that I am really waiting for however as 4GB doesn't seem enough seen as you can hit that barrier with a modded Skyrim at 4k. Hopefully AMD can deliver, they will have to come up with something at 970 prices that beats it.
