Hi guys, similar Q's in the past but wanted to build a new intel rig
Q: C2D 6420 vs 6600 and can anyone recommend suitable Gigabyte and ASUS motherboards. Also which 2GB memory should i opt for and Graph card?
Will be using it for multi-tasking, overclocking and games.
Budet for rig:£600
Advice appreciated

Hi,

Defo go with the E6600 mine clocks wonderfully nice chips as well as they have the 4mb L2 cache with is beneficial, motherbaord wise i would have said either the Abit Quad GT or the Gigabyte DS3 boards however it may well be worth looking into the new P35 boards as they look promising. Ram wise i would go with 2GB or Geil or Crucial Ballistix both excellent choices, however the ballistix tends to clock better.

So does the E6420. That said, they only cost £20 more so I'd go for the 6600 as they tend to clock better.

Agree with Ballistix for RAM, dead cheap at present too.

DS3 is a good board, Asus do some good stuff if you have a bit more to spend on the mobo. The new P35 chipset is supposed to be slightly faster than the old P965, and clocks well.

Graphics: depends on the size of your monitor really, but an 8800GTS is almost always a good choice.
