New iPad before xmas?

As said above... Expect early 'fall' so that production can get some way to reaching demand by Xmas time.

I'll hold on then. With increased competition, this should hopefully be a good refresh.

Should be but depends what constitutes a good refresh, I am guessing it will look more along the lines of the iPad mini does and probably a reasonable speed increase.

That to me is a pretty big refresh comparatively but not in some people's eyes.

All the rumours at the moment point to them changing the form factor to that of the mini, i.e. slimming down the bezel on the long sides. A faster processor is also pretty much certain.

As to anything else, I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to slim down the thickness and weight a little too.

We're due a decent refresh of the iPad really in terms of size and weight as it's remained basically unchanged since the iPad 2, with the 3 becoming slightly thicker and heavier and the 4 just adding the lightning connector. It will thus be over 2.5 years since there's been a significant change.

If only that we're true!

The CPU is theoretically twice as fast, and I see my 3 slowing where my 4 screams.

Read what I said - "in terms of size & weight". I know they've bumped the processing power with each generation but I was referring to how the overall form factor of the iPad hasn't changed in a long time and thus they're due to do something a bit different with the shape/size/weight.

Since they have iPad Mini I hardly think the screen size will change. The weight obviously will change, it changes every year, that is a given. As for design, it'll be a screen but the back shaped differently and to be honest, it is not going to change that drastically.

I really can't see it go too drastically different from a big slab of glass design, it is a tablet afterall and will remain so. The only way it can go is that it will get thiner.

I really do hate the slowing down year by year, the improvement in hardware so you can run a newer version of the same OS has started to sickens me a little. I don't use my iPad any different than I did in day one and wish I never updated my original iPad now.

I reckon we'll see a new iPad announced around October to co-incide with the launch of IOS7 alongside the iPhone 5S. There have apparently been quite a few leaked cases suggesting that it'll look more like the iPad mini with the same 9.7" screen but the edge bevels removed on the long edge.

Hopefully they'll manage to reduce the weight slightly and pimp the CPU/GPU whilst they're at it. I'd be tempted to buy a new one as me and my fiancée are always fighting over 'my' current iPad 3 :)

Yeah it is a bit galling. I'm already starting to wonder how "well" iOS 7 will run on my 4S and whether I'll be "forced" into upgrading that despite not really wanting to.

The next iPad won't be radically different but will almost certainly have the thinner bezel like the mini does and will likely be thinner and lighter, especially as it got heavier from the 2 to the 3. At present I feel the retina display is the main think keeping the mini from cannibalising too many sales of the full iPad and, with a retina mini in the offing, they need to improve the iPad a reasonable amount.

Well I would like a slimmer and lighter case. Not too bothered if they copy the mini design or not and a faster processor. Ideally a screen update too, but I'm not sure if any improvement could actually be made on the retina display.

I'm still more than happy with my ipad 2 and I've been thinking the same thing about ios7. I'm going to wait until most people have updated their's before I do mine, just in case
