New iPhone issues

Moving our lass's mum from iPhone 3GS to 4.

Her 3 still syncs to itunes fine, but the 4 appears in the list but won't do anything. I can't see any information on the right, it just says iPhoneThere's no way to expand the selection in the left hand pane.

So far I've tried updating itunes (already latest version) clearing sync history, creating a new windows user and removing the locally held backups all TNA.

Anyone got anything else I can try? The phone itself works fine.

When i do get the phone to be seen in itunes on very rare occasions i get the unable to load provider data error message.

Put it onto another PC's iTunes to see if it's the PC iTunes or the iPhone.

then work from there.

The previous phone still syncs fine so I would've thought it wasn't itunes?

You don't have a second laptop/pc? re-instal iTunes? remove everything from control panel and re-install.

I've done a reinstall under a new user.

Deep, under lying issues by the seems of it Gilly. Probably only a re-install of OS may solve. Don't you just hate IT sometimes.

That's not good news. Their laptop has been infected with AOL and they hate everything else

They like their AOL software as it 'keeps everything in the same place'.

Go to device manager, plug in the iPhone 4, and remove it from there.

If you then un-plug and re-plug it in it may sort the problem.

May not come up as iPhone 4, possibly "unknown device".

Just an idea.

The phone did work when I got it home. It synced fine with my lappy.

Before doing a full reformat I'd probably try recovery mode on the new iPhone - http://osxdaily.com/2011/01/08/iphone-recovery-mode/

It might help iTunes recognize it and play nice. There's a few more things I'd try if it was on a Mac, but not sure they'd work on Windows. Sorry.
