New ipod type personal audio player?

What should I get? Whats the best around or most popular?

I have an ipod mini at the moment and would like a new one.

I just got an iPod classic 120 gb and I love it! It's not as loud as my friends iPod because of the EU volume limit but it goes loud enough. I went from the mini to the classic and it is so much better in every way.

depends how big you need it to be - if you want >32gb then there really isn't much choice unfortunately

from my research (i'm also on the lookout for a new player) it's pretty much a choice between either getting a proper PMP (e.g. Archos or Cowon) or you're left with the iPod classic until microsoft release the Zune in europe (possibly later this year).

32GB seems to be the biggest for flash based players atm, not quite sure why, i'd love to se 64/128GB versions.

Thought about doing the diy mod to swop out the hard drive in the mini to a compact flash card? Might work out cheaper. Simple enough to do (lots of guides on you tube)and could work out cheaper. I did it with a £40 mini I got from ebay and replaced the hard drive with a 16 gig compact flash card. No problems running it since. Fair bit of info about on the web about it.
