Recieved mine this morning! 30gb in black. Nice.

Question time:

What's the best software to use for this thing. Does ephpod still work with it? Or is itunes the only way to go now? Will that manage all my music if i point it in the right direction?

How do i ensure i get album art?

Also, could you recommend the best way of converting avi (some divx) videos so that they work on it?

Thank you.

Scrap that. Found all the software i need now...searched (which i should have done first!)

One question i do have if someone could help...if i have, for example, a 3 CD compilation album..what's the best way of adding them so they're all linked?

I second this. I always browse music via artist, and Ive just added loads of compilation albums (Clubland) to my iTunes and it looks messy when looking for a song via artists. It would be cool if they could update the iPod firmware and iTunes, so that compilation album tracks are kept together, regardless of artists etc. One way you could keep the tracks together (Ive just started doing this) is editing the ID Tags, and put the album name infront of the artist to keep them grouped.
eg: Clubland 8, DJ Presta Ft Bonse

I thought I may as well revive this thread instead of starting a new one.

I have some AVI's that I want to put on my iPod. The problem is they are 16:9 stretched to 4:3. Is there any way of returning them to widescreen? I'm trying to do it with VideoRA, but failing. :(

I encode all my ipod vids with PSP Video 9, works perfectly. I have them ready to stick on my PSP then or my Ipod.

I just downloaded and installed this. It's IDENTICAL to VideoRA!

Still doesn't help me with the settings I need.

Can you not alter it in the settings themselves to re-format the screensize?

Wierd on them being the same too.

3GP can do this, however, you need to alter one of the files for it to encode widescreen movies correctly.

Here’s how you do it:

* Download the application from here .
* Unzip it to a folder somewhere on your desktop and open the folder created by the zip file.
* Open the 3GP_Converter034 folder.
* Run the setup.exe program and select “English” and “Model: MP4 for iPod”.
* In this folder you’ll see various files, look for one called Transcoding.ini. If you cannot see it, turn on hidden files in Explorer by going to Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Display Hidden File Types.
* Open transcoding.ini with notepad (right-click the file and select “Open With” and then chose notepad) and scroll to the bottom of the file. You’ll see a block of text that’s commented out with semicolons and has some Unicode text in it. Before this and after the previous entry, add this text:

[Item5]
Title=MPEG4 QVGA/oW€‰æŽ¿(768kbps)/29.97fps ‚'oÏŠ•
TitleE=MPEG4 QVGA/768kbpsWS
FileNameMax=59
Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -title "<%Title%>" -timestamp "<%TimeStamp%>" -bitexact -vcodec mpeg4 -s 368x208 -r 29.97 -b 768 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -ab 64 -f ipod "<%OutputFile%>.MP4"" Command1=""<%AppPath%>\cores\AddiTunes" "<%OutputFile%>.MP4""

Save the file and run the program. You should now be able to select the “WS” entry for widescreen encoding. Test it with a few small AVIs and see if the aspect ratio is correct. If it’s still a little off, change the resolution in transcoding.ini in the above block of text until it works out. I have set it at 368 x 208 but it might be a little off. Experiment until you find a setting that works for you.
