Hi guys

Am going to be leaving BT broadband after about 7-10 years of good service with them. Am on the 8meg option 3 package and they have not restricted my speeds due to me downloading over 100gig last month. (HD Content rules)

Anyway. I have a few ISP's to choose from.

O2
Be
Aol
Sky

Anyone have any idea's which one for a heavy user?

Take AOL out of there for a start. Be (owned by 02) or Sky look good. Im heading for Be* as a medium to heavy user since they do lightning fast download and very fast upload.

As near everyone will say, O2 or BE.

I'm with BE and quite happy.

However, if you're not likely to reach the full 24.5MB speed BE offers and/or have an O2 mobile, it will be cheaper to go with O2.
Also, if you play games and have a decent line, you can have interleaving disabled on BE whereas you have to be quite lucky to get it disabled on O2.

I just moved from Bt to plus net, the differnce is unbeliveble, they have great forums, and to change broadband setiings (static ip/ interleaved or fast) all you need to do is ask

plus net is essentially BT any more with just a different front end... and I can tell you - hit more than 100gig a month any more on BT or an ISP just reselling the basic BT connection and you will regret it :( "1Mbit" at peak times but due to the 50% PL and general crappiness you won't see much more than 44-48KByte/s download speeds.

+1 for Be* moved to them from plusnet a year ago and even though I get no faster a synch speed than I had with plusnet I get much faster download speeds and reliability.

Plusnet are probably the best of the rest. IMHO and they have a good range of products

I am with BE now, and have been for about 2 weeks now (I think) currently getting 20meg down/2meg up.

Awesome service :)

On top of that, once you've had your BE account for a while, you can get a discount. After two years, I'm now paying £12.50/month for the unlimited package.

and if you had an o2 mobile, you can get the equivalent package for £9.79 a month from day 1 (actually day 61 - you get 2 months free if you signup at the moment). be* do offer a free static ip and have interleaving options. o2 charge extra for static ip and interleaving is always on with no option to turn off. other than that, the package is identical.

even if you don't have an o2 mobile, you can get a PAYG sim and top that up £10 every months to qualify for the same discount. so that works out @ £13.12 a month plus you have the credit on the sim.

and if you have no interest in o2 mobile at all, it's still only £14.68 a month.

What do you call a while?

i would say once you are out of your contract of 12 months, you can ring them up and have a chat

just tell them that you are thinking of leaving and they will probablly offer you a reduced rate to keep you

Righto. I'm not sure I could convince them I want to leave as I'm dead happy with them :D Worth a shot anyhow.

I did mention in my first post that O2 is cheaper if you don't need those things. I happen to require a static IP for my job and sync at the full 24.5MB so wouldn't be willing to drop down to O2's lower speed.

I didn't threaten to leave at all. I just said I had friends who had a discounted package and asked if I could have one too.

sorry i missed your first post. :o

for o2 mobile customers, paying for £4.89 for the static ip would still be cheaper than be in the first year- or you could get the top package instead for £17.13 with included static ip and 2.5mb uploads.

and even though o2 only advertise 20mb, it's still really upto 24mb just like be. they don't artificially lower it. you're connected to the same kit afterall.
