Right, I've got wifi working and figured out how to do videos and music without mixing it with my ipod but have a few questions on the working on the itouch itself.

1 - Do you actually close any programs when you finish using it or just press the home screen button at the bottom?
2 - Is the home screen button the only button to use to get to the home screen?
3 - Can you change the home screen background?
4 - Does the ipod remote work with this and use it to control tracks, since it would be handy not having to look at the screen to change songs.
5 - Is the home screen button a button or a touch sensitive button as I have to press it quite hard (compare to the rest of the screen) to get it to go back sometimes, or may be because i still have the original film on it.
6 - With movies, does it always play in landscape mode?

1: press home
2: yeps
3: if you jailbreak it
4: not sure
5: take the protective film off and you only need to press it very lightly
6: i think so

They updated the Universal dock, hence the smaller IR.

Also, you won't need that protective film.. the glass is virtually indestructable, certainly not scratchable :)

I took great pleasure "key-ing" my iPhone screen infront of my mates to prove this.

do a video :)

do a video :)

There's plenty of videos on YouTube of people trying to scratch it.

If a group of drunken mates cannot scratch the screen with a bunch of keys ;)

Perhaps if you gouged the glass with a sharp cutting tool.. but that'd destroy the touch-film in the process anyway.

Press the home screen button. It can be annoying on the web browser as you return to your previous visited site rather than a home page when you load safari, but you get used to it.

2 - Is the home screen button the only button to use to get to the home screen?

As far as I know yes, ive not came across another way to do it

3 - Can you change the home screen background?

If you jailbreak it I believe you can, but as a standard player, no.

4 - Does the ipod remote work with this and use it to control tracks, since it would be handy not having to look at the screen to change songs.

The remote works yes, ive got one with mine. The only button that doesnt work is the 'Menu' button, play, pause and the rest work fine.

Im pretty sure its just a button, it certainly doesnt feel like a touch button as I have touch sensitive buttons on my mobile and they dont press in.

6 - With movies, does it always play in landscape mode?

Yes

So did a mate of mine, and it did scratch it, albeit only slightly and you had to actually look for it, but it was there.

Or do what i did, buy the invisible shield protector from ebay..cost me about £15 but it protects both the front panel of the itouch and also the back as well.....and its indestructible....ive tried to punch a hole through the invisible shield and i had to use quite a bit of force to get a hole in it. Using the invisible shield on the front still allows you to use the touch sensitive buttons.

Question - Is there a way to access the itune library at home via wifi and stream music ? preferably without jailbreaking it.

Doesn't the Touch use a plastic screen, not the glass one of the iPhone?

I'm 99% sure its glass same as the iphone mate:)

I really do prefer the black bezel on the touch compared to the chrome of the iphone.

Being someone who was worried about damaging the screen, i left the cover on. After watching the videos on Youtube, you will realise you dont need it! I've taken a key and a pin to the screen and it doesnt even mark a little bit.

This is my fourth ipod and all others have been scratched to hell (hence the worry) but you honestly can take it off and not worry.

The glass is the same - but the LCD panel is apparently of slightly lower quality. Thats the only distinction (sans size) I am aware of.
