Just got a new job and want to upgrade my bike (er6f) but I have no idea what to get? I'm 20 with 4 years Ncb so insurance on sports 600/750's isn't to bad the only problem is I'm 6'4 so I think I would look stupid on a 600 been looking at gsxr 750's L1-L3's. I'm also tempted by the yamaha mt09's suggestions would be appreciated guys :) thanks

Oh yeh my budget is around £6500

Your budget gets you a almost new MT-09 (e.g. ex-demo 2014 bike) that will have the majority of the manufacturers warranty left, which could be handy, and it is a decent upgrade from an ER6.

However if you fancy a sports bike then you really need to see if you can arrange a test ride at your local dealers to see how well you fit the bike.

yeh thats the problem most places want you to be 21 :/ might try and ring around try and get a test ride on an mt09 saw one in town the other day and looked lovely!

does the er6 fit you well? I don't think the sports 600's are any diff in size/riding

zx6r would suit you, dont need anything faster

Quite a way turned 20 in jan. And I have my full licence restriction went in jan 2013 :) doing some insurance quotes it doesn't make much difference waiting a year on a gsxr 750 it's about £450 fully comp seems alright.

Yeh I'm looking at the new zx6r 636 well a second hand one

A bit off topic here:

I see a lot of people recommend ex-demo bikes or cars. By this do they mean test ride bikes, or bikes that have just sat on the show room floor?

The reason I ask is if it was a test ride bike then surely it was never broken in properly? You will no doubt get people red lining on test rides etc...

If you haven't used this before give this website a go. It'll give you an idea...

The GSXR600 and 750 are identical, except the frame, engine and engine associated components, so if you think you'll look stupid on a 600, you'll look equally as stupid on the 750.

Most sports bikes don't really cater for taller riders, but plenty ride them with no problem.

So went to my local yamaha dealer today to look at mt09's as I walked through the door was draw to a second hand (62plate) daytona 675r at a really good price (£6799)! Seeming as the forks and shock alone cost £4.5k. Comes with a FSH and brand new tyres. Pick it up on Friday can't wait!

Will put a picture up tonight... :)
