New Keyboard Required

My Logitech G510 needs replacing.

I would like a mechanical keyboard, but as I work nights at home, I don't need too much noise, silent switches. RGB is a must and I game a lot.

I like the digital display I have with my G510, but do they have anything like this with mechanical keyboards?

Price is not a issue as long as it ticks the boxes

To be honest the Logitech mechanical keyboards with the Romer-G linear switches are quite quiet. I use a G410 (discontinued) at home and it's quiet enough for using at night and not sounding obnoxious on voice comms.

Unfortunately, I don't know any with a built in-screen because Logitech switched to the ARX dock for your smartphone on a handful of keyboards after that.

Thanks JamieH, are they any good compared to the Cherry switches?
 
Mechanical and silent is difficult to find unless you want to go down the rabbit hole of a custom build, lubed switches and so forth. The logitech ones are supposed to be decent but I have never used them personally.

To put it simply, Cherry switches are better in my personal opinion. I have used quite a few different Cherry, ALPS, Gateron and Outemu switches over the years (use Outemu Blacks at work at the moment) and the Logitech Romer-G switch is closer to a rubber dome than a mechanical.

Does that mean I think it's a bad switch? No.

Romer-G

Pros:
  • Nice and even lighting with no backlight bleed due to how the switch and key-caps are manufactured.
  • Quite quiet, similar to the sound level of a rubber dome.
  • Very little wobble on the key-caps when pressing.
  • Seem to be durable.
Cons:
  • Pretty much no aftermarket for replacement key-caps compared to Cherry compatible stems.
  • Quite a bit more 'mushy' than a Cherry or similar mechanical switch.
  • Not a big fan of the LGS software Logitech make nowadays.
If I had to rate in order it would be Cherry, Outemu, ALPS, Romer-G then Gateron.

Like Biz.Kid09 said, unless you go down the custom rabbit hole and lube and O-ring the switch stems and choose the right tactile or linear switch, you won't find many off the shelf quiet keyboard options. One of the only exceptions I know would be something like the following:

Best bet is to try a 'certain store' which normally has Logitech keyboards out on display where you can try the switches out beforehand.
 
+1 for Cherry switches - I've never had a problem with them.
Just make sure you get the Cherry switch that gives you the feel you prefer (Black/Red/Brown/Blue/etc)
 
Just to note, switch type can make a huge difference.

You're not going to find a quiet (let alone silent) blue switch for example. There are some hybrids out there, or specialist switches from companies like Das which are worth checking out. I'd say reds are one of the quietest of the standard switches, blue and brown are designed to be clicky and thus loud.
 
I have two ducky keyboards with silent reds and whilst they sure aren't silent they make very little noise whilst still feeling good to type on. My other keyboard has browns (K70) and is also very good but is much louder but thats sort of a given with them not being "silent" switches.
 
Has anyone used one of those Steelseries Apex keyboards, just looking at the OmniPoint switches and their actuation point being a lot less than the MX cherry, so you don't need to bottom out to register a stroke.
