Hi all,

So as the title says I am looking for a new keyboard currently. Apologies if this is the wrong forum but there's no peripheral specific one (yet).

I'm thinking about making the move to mechanical as my 6 year old rubber domes are starting to squeak and I fancy something new.

I mostly game but do a reasonable amount of typing as well, including mmo and fps gaming. So far I think I want something like a cross between the rokkat isku and the razer anansi. It's probably a gimmick but I would quite like the thumb modifier keys on something but I also want the media/extra programmable buttons around the sides as I like the utility of being able to launch apps and have single key commands (change track/mute etc on media players).

Is there something you kind folks can recommend or am I just going to have to make a decsion over what features I want more?

I'd go for brown cherry switches as a compromise between gaming (black/red) and typing (blue).

I highly recommend the "Cooler Master Storm QuickFire Rapid" range, and you can choose what switches to have in them. Expect to pay around £60, as they are one of the best value cherry keyboards out there.

Note that they are "10keyless" which means no numpad, although you can pay more for the versions with the numpad I found I simply didn't need it.

I went for blacks for reference.

Thanks for the speedy response but only one of the CM keyboards has media/extra keys and none of them have the thumb modifiers I would like to see on a new keyboard for myself.

All of the quickfire range have the media keys, but if the macros are required then I guess you need to spend about twice as much.

Those are the thumb button style things that i'm talking about, that and the anansi (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-062-RA&groupid=702&catid=23&subcat=). The main question really was do keyboards with mechanical switches have them and it would seem that they don't.

As for the media keys, if there are modifiers for the f keys to do that (it looks like it from the image now i've looked again) then my apologies for missing it the first time. I would still like access to programmable buttons not just for macros but for program launching in the OS etc as it's a comfort I have got used to over the years i've had my current keyboard.
