Anyone had any experience with the current gen Sorento?

Next car ideally needs 7 seats as we have a tribe of 5 of us already and 1 more in the making, and the '4' PHEV trim is in my lease bracket which looks super well equipped.

Currently driving a T8 XC60 PHEV (Already missing that 135bhp :()

Other options i'm seeing are:

  • Skoda Kodiaq SE-L 2.0D
  • Hyundai Santa-Fe PHEV
Id love an XC90 but well out of my price range.

7 year warranty, I don't think you'd have much to worry about. A friend bought an older one on a 12 plate and it was nothing but trouble. Gearbox and diff issues mainly.

The new one is well equipped and gets good reviews. I think it looks good and it's bigger than a Kodiaq.

The Santa Fe shares a lot with the Sorento, just comes down to what one you like more.

I think it looks great and has a good list of options.

Only issue is the prices...I've not seen what deals you can get on these but the RRP for a hybrid is quite eye watering for a Kia!

I have a new 2021 Sorento 3 PHEV and love it.

I had a 2019 Q7 50tdi and the space inside the Sorento is better. It sis certainly much larger than the Kodiaq and I believe the new Sorento, despite being based on the same platform as the Santa Fe, has a slightly longer wheelbase, again adding to more interior space.

In terms of driving then, if you do lots of journeys less than 30 miles, the EV mode is great. Although it only has an 89 HP electric motor it never feels under-powered for you normal day to day driving so I am spending the vast majority of my time in full ev mode.

The kit levels are great in my 3 with full adaptive cruise, Highway driving assist, etc and electric leather sets with front and rear heating. There are also stupidly practical things like usb sockets on the upper part of the front seats and in the third row, along with third row climate controls, cup holders in the rear doors, etc.

In terms of driving, then I don't get the same magic carpet ride that I had with the Q7 and its air suspension and there is not the same effortless power but it is fast enough for me and the space is great.

Overall, I would say this si the best value 7 seater SUV for anyone who wants the space in the third row to actually put people. I had an XC90 as well before the Q7 and it is flashier, but no more practical and the PHEV version is ridiculously priced. I have also read that the XC() has a really thirsty engine when the battery runs out.

Definitely get a test drive of a PHEV and I think you will be impressed. It's also good not ot be driving the same type of car that all the other parents at school drive! Any questions just ask.

I’ve no experience of the Sorrento, but have owned a Sportage for the last 3 years and it’s been mostly bullet proof. Only recently the 4th gear synchro failed, it has a revised, stronger part and is being replaced under warranty. The climate (aircon) failed but sorted with a regas.

The issue with asking on this forum about a Kia is that you’ll be ridiculed by BMW owners (oh the irony!)

We were about to trade in our Sportage for a Mercedes but after test driving some, I was not impressed. We’re going to keep the Kia a year longer and look at a Tesla X.

The new sorrento looks really nice, presumably the interior plastics are better so it should be a really nice car.

I think this is unfair. Kia of old might have involved a little ridicule here but not how they are nowadays. Good cars, if perhaps uninspiring to some people.

Only a few weeks ago, a BMW i3 owner on here said to me they would rather walk somewhere rather than own a Kia Sportage. Quite comical.

Only a few weeks ago, you told an i3 owner on here that you didn't own a Kia. Quite comical.

How are you finding the general build quality, materials, infotainment, etc. compared to the Q7? My in-laws have a Niro and it's full of scratchy plastics and naff graphics and infotainment. It's been absolutely faultless and very well spec'd for the price point, but the quality of the interior is such a let down. Is this much improved in the new Sorento, or roughly the same?

Read up, genius.
Yeah, you never sold the Kia. Unless you bought it back off the dealer after you traded it in for your Mercedes, which you then sold back to the dealer after test driving some more. Genius.
Stop derailing West's thread with your BS.

Uh huh, Kia owner replying on a Kia thread. Bet you’re an i3 clown car owner? Salty much? At any rate, I can now enjoy this forum more now that you’re ignored. Result!

The overall quality in terms of density of material isn't as good as the Q7 but the build quality in terms of rattles/creaks, etc is, as far as I can tell over the past 1000 miles, the same. There are more shiny black plastics than the Q7 but the infotainment is a 12" screen for the driver display and a 10" display for the satnav, etc. I like the fact that the aircon has proper physical buttons as well.

The seats feel more American, in that they are wider and flatter than the S Line Q7 seats were but everyone who has been in the Sorento has commented how comfortable it is (and they were regularly in the Q7 as well.)

The new infotainment system is good but for some reason the base model 8" screen had wireless carplay and Android Auto, but he 10" screens doesn't.
