New kid on the block Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Absolutely crap layout... 1 PCI slot which is rendered unuseable if you go Crossfire, SATA ports all over the shop, IDE port at the bottom of the motherboard...

Initial reports on XS etc. are good.

initial reports on XS are usually always good ;) then us mugs buy retail and get duped.

should be a good board but i'm sitting on the fence considering abit's efforts the last couple of years.

Ain't that the truth.

As much as I think XS is a good resource for finding out the up and coming kit, you really do have to take performance benchmarks with a HUGE pinch of salt. Always remember that the people doing these reviews are probably on a payroll (either directly or by proxy - i.e. freebies), and will no doubt have a huge collection of cherry-picked hardware with which to find the absolute best combination.

Us mere mortals are lucky to get 75% of the performance. :(

absolutely, it's got to the stage where most intelligent ppl realise review sites are either on 'the take' in one form or another or receive golden samples that it's now moved to forums to hawk their new hardware.

it's unfortunate but you're entirely correct ....enjoy the previews at XS but interpret the performance with an open mind :D

Did anyone else find the marketing blurb a tiny bit over the top? :D
