Hello all, I'm looking to replace my 5:1 Acoustic Energy Aego P5 mkii,it is great but I fancy a change, idealy with wireless speakers and small wall units - budget of up to a grand - any recommendations welcome?

Thanks, I'm showing my ignorance here. I'm not adverse to laying a bit of cable around the room, just want the best quality sound for my cash. I guess wireless technology isn't up to delivering quality as yet. What would you recommend for a decent 5.1 upgrade from my previous bit of kit?

If you want best sound quality for your cash then you definitely want to avoid wireless speakers. If you really want the best sound quality then you should think about something bigger than those tiny satellites. Something bigger for the front and centre speakers will help sound quality enormously.

If we're sticking with tiny satellites, and you want something that's a step up from the Aego's, then have a listen to the Cambridge Audio Minx S215 (discounted @ £499).

If it was my money though I'd search out one of the two stonking end-of-line deals from Monitor Audio. The Radius Audio R90 HD10 was about £1300. It's now on clearance at £699. The front and rear surround speakers are Hi-Fi speakers in miniature. They're just 8" x 5" x 5.5" This kit would be equally at home with a £2000 AV amp as a £500.

The other deal is on Monitor Audio Vector VC10 system. Was £899, now £299 while stocks last. This "budget version of the HD10 system". It uses the same speaker drivers but in cabinets that cost less to make.

The other end-of-line deal to grab is on electronics. The Yamaha RX-V673 AV amp is tuned for music as well as for music. This makes it a great choice for anyone looking for a multi-role system. This amp was £500 but remaining stocks are flying out at £299
