We are looking at kitchens for our new property and have so far seen:

Magnet
County Kitchens (Sigma3)
Wren Kitchens

Any got any experiences with any of the above?

We are looking at white gloss cupboards with black granite worktops, so any other recommendations?

Are there any local companies around, we looked at Magnet/Wickes et all and found a local company who were not only a little cheaper did exactly what we wanted and not "oh that doesn't come in that size"?

Find yourself a local company which makes it's own carcasses etc.

Magnet and the like are only interested in fitting standard units so if your room is an odd size you end up with filler pieces etc. Plus they charge an arm and a leg for electrics and plumbing - £150 to move a socket etc.

I had mine done recently and the company I dealt with were great, custom sized units to fit the gaps, extra long doors on the wall units instead of handles etc. That plus a decent local fitter meant that I got about twice as much kitchen for less than the price Magnet quoted.

After lots of research we are trying to decide between Howdens and Wickes.

Price wise they are both coming to £15k-£20k including appliances.

Which would you guys choose?

I just fitted a new kitchen in our new extension. I chose ikea as they were the same quality, but cheaper.

My inlaws spent a similar amount to what your looking at, they were very surprised when they saw our ikea kitchen.

I would only pay the ammount your paying if the kitchen was custom made. But wickes are no better than ikea IMO.

My parents have a howdens kitchen, again it's just a flat pack, but i really liked the quality.

They also do solid doors as apposed to laminate.

I'd choose Howdens over Wickes, but if you can find a local company that makes it's own carcases, you'll get something better at as good or cheaper price. They'll buy in the doors and vinyl panels from a supplier company, and it will be a custom fit, and probably in better material.

Howdens all the way! Build quality is far superior to Wickes an B&Q, I'm just half way through fitting my new kitchen (Howdens). Father in law is in the trades and has bought it for us via the company, I'm just the mug that has to fit it!

It's the 14th kitchen I've installed/helped to install and by far the best build quality, every joint is dowelled and glued no visible joints or screws and just feels nice and solid. (all panels are 18mm thick!)

Howdens does look good, but the only reservation my parents have is that the back board is a really thin piece of MDF (or whatever it is) whereas Wickes' one is thicker and feels more solid.
