After buying a Yamaha YSP-2500 soundbar, then going on a mission to re-rip a lot of my MKVs with TrueHD / DTS-HD audio, I've just realised my Acer Revo RL70 doesn't even support HD audio! (only DD/DTS are selectable in Kodi's advanced settings)

What is a decent box to replace it with? It's only to run OpenELEC/Kodi and stream my MKVs from NAS.

Keep reading about the Intel NUC but £250 is perhaps more than I wanted to spend given the unit's usage of solely playing MKV.

Bonus Question: is it even worth the upgrade, will I notice a marked difference in the HD audio on a mid-range soundbar? Presumably my existing setup will decode HD audio in to standard DTS/DD5.1?

Can't say I notice the difference when I'm watching a movie with normal dts or dtshd. I don't really expect it's worth upgrading for your current set up.

I'd not get overly excited if i'm honest, the improvement isn't going to be massive and life changing. If you're ripping them again, rip them with HD/MA for future use, but personally i'd not say it was worth getting excited enough to drop £250 on.
