New Laptop 2k max ROG ???

Hi I am looking to replace my ageing Sony Viao laptop, I would like something that will be useable for gaming while I'm stuck in a hotel, 16/17 inch screen.... maybe 16 as I will be taking this on my travels.

I have been looking at a number of manufactures :

MSI
Asus
Alien

please let me know what you think ..

Some feedback on the ROG laptops would be helpful

Just an update.... I have not managed to order my JY this week as there seems to be a bit of confusion with some of the suppliers about weather or not the version they are selling is the G-Sync version ....

And do I really need 32 gig of ram ??? ( I think not ) so I'm looking for the 16 gig version with the 980M in it.

Fingers crossed I will get my hands on one in the next week :)

Hi anthony566,

Before you take the plunge its worth considering the G-sync AORUS X7 which has just come back into stock with OcUK:

This will give you GPU performance approximately 10% higher than a single GTX980m

If you want something that will still give you performance in line with a GTX870m, you should also really give this unit some thought, as it is heavily discounted and bundled with £150+ of extras that complete the package,,,,

Just thought we should mention these 2 as they seem to exceed your requirements....

Hope that helps,

Regards,

I've had the JT model for a couple of months now and am incredibly pleased with it. I still marvel at how cool and quiet the thing runs, even when playing games on Ultra. You're right with going for the 16GB version, though - you'd only need 32 if you were doing some seriously demanding work on it. I've come nowhere close to maxxing out the 16Gb I've got.

Is it this one? ASUS G751JT-T7115H

Cheapest I can find it online is £1300 notes so far.

Would pay a little more for a 980M but it looks like you have to go to the JY model, which is significantly more!

I got the 32GB non-Gsync model for £1670 just before the Gsync model was announced and I'm really pleased with mine. Would like Gsync but not too fussed considering it was £300 cheaper than what the same models are being priced at now. Exactly the same hardware, Gsync is just some fancy software so hopefully someone hacks it for the old non-Gsync models for Windows 10.

Chadd, how good is the screen? Backlight bleed noticeable? How does it handle motion etc? Biggest concern I have.

The JT can be had for £1250 now, still not seeing a good deal on the JY non-GSYNC model.

Finally got round to ordering the correct version today .... I did go for the ASUS ROG G751JY-T7303H in the end as it was a good price so 32 gig it is not that I'm going to use that much memory ...

I will put up a few photos if anyone is interested once I have it.

I have to say that there are some very good laptops around but for me I really like the style and the cooling setup on the Asus. I know I could have maybe got more for the same money from another manufacturer or even spent a bit less but ...... :-)

The ROG series are the best laptops ive ever used. The cooling is exceptional, they are near silent under load and the performance is awesome. 3 years later and my first rog is still flawless. My new rog which i got yesterday is out bloody standing as usual. That IPS panel <3

So my Laptop backpack has arrived ...... All I need now is the laptop itself !!!!!

I went for a backpack as this laptop isn't small or light and it seemed a much better way to move it around in my car as I work away for 4 days a week.

The screen is really good.
Handles motion fine, no problems that I can see, although I've only ever had a 60hz panel. The majority of these can be set to run at 100hz. I've got mine on 70hz although 100 is possible on mine.
I do have some very slight light bleed in the top corner but I didn't consider it bad enough to warrent a return which I could have done easily as the place I ordered from had a 1 month returns policy.

What won me over on the G751 was how quiet it is even under load. Means I can use it in the lounge while others are watching TV. Build quality seems solid as well.

Just thought i would update my thread ...

I did get an ASUS ROG G751JY-T7303H from opening the box all looked good these laptops have a fantastic finish and feel great, its not as heavy as i thought it was going to be but unfortunately it had a rattling sound from the GPU fan ... cpu fan is almost silent as is the gpu one ( before it started rattling ) everything else about this laptop is fantastic screen, keyboard etc and very quick.

So i contacted the supplier who had the laptop picked up on the same day and 4 days later i had a replacement. .. all good until last night ... the gpu fan started to do the same as the first one so i called the supplier at 9:30 and at 14:00 it was picked up so a replacement should arrive in 3 days ....

Im gutted :( :( i really like this laptop i did a quick serch on the net and the gpu fan noise is something that does seem to be an issue on these how ever once out of warranty it is something that can be fixed quite easily.

I even got myself a matching back pack !!!!!! SO IM STUCK WITH ASUS ..... :) :) :)
